A three-under-par second round has moved Callum Shinkwin into contention at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.

The Bushey professional followed up yesterday’s 68 with a 69 to move to seven-under-par at the halfway stage in Doha, leaving him four shots behind leader Adrian Otaegui in a share of 16th place after 36 holes.

Moor Park club-mate Matt Wallace has also made the final two rounds after he added a round of 71 to his first round 69 to leave him three shots further back on four-under. That only made the cut by one shot but such is the congested nature of the leaderboard, the 27-year-old is in a mass share of 53rd place.

Shinkwin opened up with a birdie four at the first and was to move to six-under with a three at the par four seventh.

The 24-year-old’s only dropped shot of his second round came with a four at the eighth, but he retrieved that with a birdie at the par five 10th before moving to seven-under with a three at 16.

Wallace also began with a birdie at the first and, like his club-mate, his only bogey of the day came at the seventh.

It was otherwise a day of par scoring for the Pinner-based professional with the exception of the 12th where he made a birdie three.
