Moor Park professionals Callum Shinkwin and Matt Wallace will begin tomorrow’s final round of the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters with a high finish in their sights.

Bushey golfer Shinkwin had begun the third round four shots off the lead in Doha, but that gap has widened by two strokes at the time of writing after he added a 70 to his scores of 68 and 69 to sit on nine-under-par going into the last 18 holes.

Club-mate Wallace had ground to make up after rounds of 69 and 71 had left him on four-under at the halfway stage, but a fine 67 has elevated him up to a tie for 23rd place and also six shots off the lead.

Shinkwin had started with a birdie two at the third, but three consecutive bogey fives from the fifth to the seventh threatened to derail his challenge.

However, the 24-year-old responded to those setbacks impressively with a run of three birdies in four holes; a two at the eighth followed by a four at the 10th and a three at 11 to move him up to eight-under, before he picked up a third shot on the back nine at the par four 16th.

Wallace’s 67 was one of the lowest third round scores but it came after he only picked up one shot on the front nine; birdies at the par four fifth and seventh holes split by a bogey five at six.

However, the 27-year-old kicked on significantly on the back nine, making back-to-back birdies with a four and three at the 10th and 11th, a feat he was to repeat on the par four 15 and 16 holes to move to nine-under for the tournament.

Oliver Fisher currently leads on 15-under, one shot clear of fellow Englishman Eddie Pepperell and American Sean Crocker.
