Watford secured back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time since November, as Troy Deeney’s 77th minute winner secured the Hornets a valuable 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

Fresh from scoring the winner against Everton last week, the Hornets' captain was to score a valuable goal for the second week running, calmly firing the ball into the top left corner, after being played in behind West Brom’s defence thanks to a delightful pass from substitute Will Hughes.

Saturday’s game was one of limited chances, although Stefano Okaka did have an effort cleared off the line earlier in the second half, while Salomon Rondon and Jonny Evans forced Orestis Karnezis into good saves at the other end.

Here’s how the Hornets rated at Vicarage Road:

Orestis Karnezis - 7

A safe pair of hands in the Watford goal. Made two good saves from Rondon and Evans early in the second half. Came and collected the ball when necessary. It certainly looks like the Hornets have a new number one in the Greek international.

Daryl Janmaat - 7

Beaten by Jay Rodriguez three times in the space of thirty seconds in the opening minutes, but improved as the first half went on, forcing Foster into a good save with his feet as the game neared half-time. Made a superb block to prevent Rodrgiuez from opening the scoring from point-blank range in the 70th minute.

Adrian Mariappa - 8

Making his 250th Watford start, Mariappa made a number of crucial tackles and interceptions early on, including a fantastic block from Krychowiak to prevent the Polish international from putting the Baggies ahead. An under-hit back pass in the second half almost played Rondon in, but aside from that, it was another excellent display from the centre-half. The fit-again Miguel Britos has a fight on his hands to regain his spot in the side.

Sebastian Prodl - 6.5

Barring a shaky start to the second half, Prodl had a solid game at the back. Almost opened his account for the season through a towering header at the near post which flew inches over the bar.

Jose Holebas - 7

Set piece delivery caused Albion problems and had a solid, if unspectacular game at left-back, making some important blocks and headers. Limped off in extra time after bravely sliding into prevent Oliver Burke with a run at goal.

Abdoulaye Doucoure - 6

By no means Doucoure’s best performance this season, but the Frenchman slowly grew into the game after a slow start. Tried his best in midfield, but gave the ball away on a few occasions.

Etienne Capoue - 7

Fresh from signing a new contract at Vicarage Road in the week, Capoue’s encouraging performances under Javi Gracia continued, with another solid display against the Baggies. Enjoyed plenty of possession and looked to get the Hornets moving forward at every opportunity.

Andre Carrillo - 5.5

Enjoyed a lively start to the game, combining well with Deeney and almost setting up Pereyra inside the first ten minutes. But he quickly faded and barring a curling effort which went over the bar in the second half, the Peruvian was largely anonymous. Defensive work rate needs to improve, as on a few occasions he failed to track back.

Roberto Pereyra - 5

Another quiet display from the Argentine who flattered to deceive once again. Barring a fantastic through ball to release Janmaat in behind the Baggies defence in the first half and some nice link-up play with the likes of Doucoure at times, Pereyra was largely anonymous in truth.

Richarlison - 5

Tried hard and saw an acrobatic volley go just wide of the post early in the second half, but otherwise it was another quiet afternoon for the young Brazilian. Was visibly annoyed at being substituted in the 55th minute, throwing his gloves to the floor in anger as he left the pitch.

Troy Deeney - 7.5

The captain came up trumps for the Hornets once again, scoring his second important goal in the space of a week, with a composed finish which nestled into the top corner to secure Watford a crucial three points. Led the line well all afternoon.

Substitutes

Stefano Okaka - 7

Came on as a second half substitute and was in the thick of action within minutes, showcasing a lovely piece of skill to turn Ahmed Hegazi. Had an effort cleared off the line by Kieran Gibbs after a smart turn inside the area and was a real nuisance to the West Brom backline.

Will Hughes -7

In his first game back from injury, the former Derby man played an influential role, superbly winning the ball back in the middle of the park before playing a delightful through ball which released Deeney, who calmly converted. The timing of that pass was spot-on and the England U21 international used the ball effectively after coming on. Must surely be in line for his first start since November against Arsenal.
