Daryl Janmaat believes he and the fit-again Kiko Femenia can play in the same team, despite the pair both traditionally operating as right-backs.

Femenia has just returned from a two-month injury lay-off and came on as a winger to partner Janmaat on the right hand side in Watford’s 1-0 win over Everton a fortnight ago.

It is a position Javi Gracia says he may continue to use Femenia in, and Janmaat, who welcomes the added competition for his place, sees no reason he and Femenia can’t play together.

“It is always good to have competition and I have always had it in my career. I think Kiko and I can play with each other,” Janmaat said.

“It is good playing with him and I can play there (right-back) and he can play as well. We have a good relationship so it is good.

“I am always confident and I do not think of others. I always look to myself.”

Janmaat has played as both a wing-back and traditional right-back and is confident in either role.

While the 28-year-old insists he has no preference, he says the only requirement he needs when playing is license to get forward and join in in the attacking third.

He said: “The last two clubs I have played both positions and I like to go forward. I have played wing-back for the national team so don’t mind.

“For me, it is important that I can go forward. I will never play under a manager who tells me that I have to stay back.”
