Watford will go to Emirates Stadium in confident mood after recording back-to-back home wins, according to Adrian Mariappa.

The pair of victories saw the Hornets claim two wins on the spin in the Premier League for the first time since November and move nine points clear of the relegation zone.

With room to breathe a little easier, Watford can make the short trip to north London in high spirits and Mariappa says Javi Gracia’s men believe they can take three points against Arsenal.

“It is going to be a tough game and we will go there full of confidence because we got two wins [in a row],” Mariappa said.

“We are going to try and get the points on the board again and the manager won’t demand anything less.”

Arsenal’s abject form, which has seen them lose four games on the spin for the first time since 2002, will give Watford more belief of causing an upset.

The Emirates is likely to be a toxic atmosphere, with many fans calling for Arsene Wenger to be dismissed.

Watford can also turn to a strong recent record at the ground and have won in the Gunners’ back yard twice in their three most recent visits.

Mariappa says history will have little impact, however, and expects to face a difficult 90 minutes.

He said: “You can’t really go off those sort of things. We are a different team to last year and they are a different outfit as well.

“It will be a tough game, but one we are looking forward to.”
