When Watford arrive at the Emirates Stadium tomorrow they are likely to be met by a home crowd offering little in the way of support to Arsenal.

The Gunners have endured a torrid run of form and are 13-points adrift of the all-important top four with nine Premier League games to play.

The pressure on Arsene Wenger is perhaps at the highest it has been in his 22-year tenure, no small thing considering the schizophrenic relationship Arsenal supporters have with their embattled boss.

Wenger – Arsenal’s most successful manager – sees his position called into question on a regular basis, but the current fan unrest is particularly toxic and a fine tenure looks to be reaching a hollow conclusion.

With this in mind, Watford defender Daryl Janmaat says it is important to widen the cracks in the Arsenal insecurities to earn a positive result against Wenger’s men.

“I think they are not happy at the moment. Arsenal never lose four [domestic games] in a row and that is not usual,” he said.

“I think Wenger is maybe having some trouble and that is not on us. The pressure will be on him and we have to make sure we are concentrating.

“We have to go with the same attitude as the last games and try to get the result.”

Watford’s current form is in stark contrast to Arsenal’s and they have taken 10 points from their first four Premier League games under Javi Gracia.

That run has taken them nine points clear of danger, but victory in north London would still represent an upset.

Janmaat understands keeping a disgruntled fan base feeling exactly that way for as long as possible will only aid Watford’s hopes frustrating Arsenal of taking three points.

He said: “It is important to try and keep them to nil for as long as possible in these type of games.

“We know if they score earlier it is going to be frustrating for them so we need to be ready and know what we have to do.”
