Javi Gracia believes Watford must learn from mistakes made against Arsenal if they are to come away with a positive result from their clash with Liverpool.

The Reds have been in scintillating form in front of goal this season and have found the net a total of 68 times in the Premier League alone.

Watford were exposed against Arsenal and Gracia is keen to avoid making similar mistakes to the ones which led to defeat in north London against the Merseyside club.

“If we give the chances we gave against Arsenal it will be impossible to get points there,” he said. “They scored 68 goals this season and I think are the sixth top scorers in Europe.”

Watford will though, take heart from a 3-3 draw with Liverpool on the opening day of the season and Gracia hopes to channel that experience positively at Anfield.

He said: “If you did it once you can do it again and this is the mentality for the next game for us.

“I prefer not to think about Arsenal because we thought it would be possible as well. I do not know how many possibilities we will have in the next match but we are going to exploit them.”

Despite the one-sided 3-0 scoreline at the Emirates, Watford had plenty of chances and could easily have given Arsenal a scare had they been more clinical in front of goal.

The defeat extended Gracia’s winless away run to four games in all competitions since joining the club and Watford are yet to score on the road under the Spaniard.

Gracia is unconcerned by the lack of goals and believes the chances Watford are creating provide evidence of the quality which help yield points down the line.

He said: “It is important to see that in the last match we created chances to score and it is not so important not to score if you create chances.

“In moments we will be able to score. We will the next match in Liverpool and after we will play two home games and we will try to get more points.”
