Watford will go to Anfield in confident mood today despite the threat posed by a free-scoring Liverpool, according to Sebastian Prodl.

The Reds have found the net 68 Premier League this season, making them the second top scorers in the top flight and are on course to secure a top four spot.

A visit to Anfield, Prodl admits, will always pose a considerable challenge but the Hornets will take heart from positive results against Liverpool, Arsneal and Chelsea already this season.

And Prodl says Javi Gracia’s men will be eager to prove they can match one of English football’s top sides once again this evening.

“We want to go there and be confident, and it’s on television so even more people are watching,” he said.

“We can prove that we are capable of competing with these big teams – we have been competing with these big teams this season.

“More often at home, yes, but why shouldn’t we today.

“The Premier League is so competitive, so it doesn’t matter which ground we’re going to or which stadium we are at, it’s always difficult.”

Last Sunday’s loss at Arsenal could provide the blueprint for the areas where Watford will need to improve if they are to take anything from today’s game.

The Hornets had plenty of chances, but were picked off by a clinical Gunners side who made the most of some slack Hornets defending to win with ease.

Similar errors are likely to cost Watford against an attack featuring the flying trio of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

Prodl confesses the attacking triumvirate will be hard to contain and is looking for an improved defensive display to the one the Hornets offered at Emirates Stadium.

“I might need a taxi or a motorbike [to keep up] – I don’t know,” the 30-year-old joked. “We were comfortable to go to Arsenal and we thought we can manage to get some points, if we pressed them high.

“Our pressing wasn’t that good, we had big gaps and with their quick strikers it makes the difference.

“We need to make sure we don’t give the Liverpool strikers the same space between the lines of the midfield and defence, but especially not behind the defence.

“We rely on a good defensive unit and effort from the whole side. That’s how we got the points in the last few weeks and we need to prove that again.”
