Nordin Amrabat is set to start against Portugal despite suffering a concussion in Morocco’s 1-0 loss to Iran in their World Cup opener.
The Watford winger was expected to miss out on the game after appearing to lose consciousness in the disappointing loss.
However, he has been passed fit to start the game despite an initial diagnosis saying he would not be able to play until the final game of the group phase.
FIFA protocol states that players who sustain a concussion need at least six days’ worth of recovery before playing competitively again.
Given that Amrabat picked up the injury on Friday, spent time in hospital and was said to have “clear signs of cerebral concussion” by the Morocco doctor, his return is a surprise.
The game carries particular importance for Morocco, who will crash out of the tournament in Russia should they fail to overcome a Cristiano Ronaldo inspire Portugal.
Their final group game comes against Spain on Monday.
