West Bromwich Albion are reportedly preparing to offer Ben Foster a new two-year contract in an attempt to ward off interest from Watford.

The Hornets are looking to bring a goalkeeper in this summer as they look for a replacement for Heurelho Gomes after he admitted he expects to leave Vicarage Road.

They are said to have lodged a £1 million bid for the 35-year-old who spent two years on loan at Watford between 2005 and 2007.

That bid was rejected and the Baggies value the keeper at closer to £10m – a fee which seems steep for a player of Foster’s age with just a year left of his contract.

Watford will likely have to get closer to West Brom’s valuation if they are to secure Foster’s services and are readying a new offer of £3m plus add-ons.

Foster refused to travel with the rest of the Albion squad for a pre-season training camp in Portugal last week and is understood to have been fined for his actions.

The former Manchester United keeper is settled in the midlands, however, and this fact may work in West Brom’s favour as they look to hold onto one of their key assets.
