Matt Wallace is due to get his first Open Championship campaign under way at 2.48pm on Thursday in the company of the last man to win the famous Claret Jug at Carnoustie and another Major champion.

The pairings have been announced for the first two rounds of the 147th edition of the Open and the Moor Park-attached professional has been partnered with Padraig Harrington and Bubba Watson.

Harrington won the last Open to be played at the Scottish course in 2007 when he beat Sergio Garcia in a play-off, before a stunning 2008 saw the 46-year-old Irishman retain the title at Royal Birkdale and then win his third Major at the US PGA Championship less than a month later.

Masters champion of 2012 and 2014 Watson is currently 13th in the Official World Golf Ranking having won three times on the PGA tour this year, most recently at the Travelers Championship in June.

Wallace is 73rd in the world rankings having missed the cut in his last three events – the French, Irish and Scottish Opens. But that downturn in results has come after the 28-year-old won his third European Tour title, the BMW International Open, and made his second Major appearance at the US Open.

The trio are scheduled to tee off in their second round at 9.47am on Friday.
