Watford are yet to receive a compensation fee from Everton for their former head coach Marco Silva, the Watford Observer understands.

The two clubs have been involved in a long-running dispute, which dates back to an approach made by Everton for Silva when he was at the Vicarage Road helm in November.

That attempt to take Silva to Goodison Park was, Watford contest, an illegal one and directly led to a downturn in results which ultimately cost Silva his job with the Hornets.

Everton have, of course, since got their man, with Silva taking over after Sam Allardyce departed the club at the end of last season.

While the appointment was made well after Silva’s contract with Watford had expired, the Hornets still believe they are due compensation from Everton.

Watford filed an official complaint with the Premier League over the nature of Everton’s approach and the league has chaired meetings between the two clubs.

The Merseyside club are understood to have offered Watford £9 million to speak to Silva when first attempting to secure his services.

Watford are likely to want a similar fee for the Portuguese manager should Everton be convinced to pay compensation.
