Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse is reportedly the subject of a £10 million offer from Watford.
The news comes as a surprise due to Watford being well stocked in the centre of the park where Will Hughes, Etienne Capoue, Tom Cleverley, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Nathaniel Chalobah are all options.
The Saints are understood to need to raise funds before being able to enter into the market themselves and Mark Hughes has accepted he may not add to his squad ahead of Thursday’s deadline.
A product of the Southampton academy, Ward-Prowse found his first-team spot under threat in the last year despite making 33 appearances for Southampton last season.
He scored four times last term, including netting a brace in Watford’s 2-2 draw with Southampton at Vicarage Road in January.
