Domingos Quina says the lure of more first-team opportunities made a Deadline Day move from West Ham United to Watford too good to refuse.

Watford tied the 18-year-old to a four-year deal with the option of a fifth at Vicarage Road last Thursday, in what proved to be the club’s only piece of business on the final day of the window.

Having failed to make a telling impact on the senior set up at London Stadium, Quina is keen to progress With the Hornets.

“I came to Chelsea from Portugal when I was 12 and left them to join West Ham in 2016 where I was looking for chances in the first-team,” Quina told the club website.

“That didn’t happen so I have moved on and I think I will get better chances to make it in the first-team and improve myself.

“I have been playing for the Under-23s for three years in a row now and I think it is the time to move on, play in the first-team and crack on.

“I am really happy and I have come here to play for the first-team. That is the main reason I came here.”

Quina arrives at Vicarage Road with just six senior outings for West Ham under his belt and none of those outings have come in the Premier League.

He does, however, boast plenty of experience in junior football having represented Portugal from Under-17 to Under20 level.

The summer proved to be a productive one for the midfielder, who says he can play either as a number eight or more attacking number 10, as he helped Portugal win the European Under-19 Championships.

That experience, Quina believes, will give him a foundation to build on as he looks to make progress at senior level.

“It was my third Euros and I have played with the same team. Last year I played in the Under-19s and we lost in the final to England and this year we won,” he said.

“It is a really good experience because at Under-19 level every team is good and you get good competition.

“You try your best and I try to be better than the people playing in the same position as me. You learn because international football and junior football are different. It was a very good experience.”
