Oxhey Jets came out on the wrong side seven-goal clash as they went down to a 4-3 defeat against Wantage Town in the FA Cup extra preliminary round.

With Town firm favourites from the outset, it was little surprise to see them in charge in the first half.

They took the lead on 30 minutes when Chris Jackson converted from the penalty spot after a foul by Vass Mandeville.

Jets held on until the break but looked to be in trouble when Harvey Scholes headed in a second for Town.

They reacted superbly to the disappointing start to the half, though, and Luke Jones scored a stunner in the 51st minute to reduce the deficit.

It was all square just after the hour thanks to Jones’ second of the game and Jets completed a fine turnaround through Nick Kerley soon after. A controversial penalty then allowed Jackson to score again and level the scores as the game approached its close.

Jets were left heartbroken at the last when Connor Mattimore got free and headed in at a corner deep into stoppage time.

Elsewhere in the Cup, Tring Athletic met local rivals Berkhamsted and came up short as they lost 2-0.

Both Berko goals arrived late in the piece and they required an 83rd minute Courtney Massey penalty to break the deadlock.

Tring’s fate was sealed soon after when a goalmouth scramble ended in the ball finding its way to Louis Austin and he did the rest.

Leverstock Green will join Berko in the hat for the next round after Chris Blunden scored the only goal of the game to down Southall away from home.

Bovingdon’s bright start to the to the South Midlands League Division Two league season continued on Saturday as they made it two wins in two by overcoming Mursley United 3-2.

The game got off to a worrying start for Bovingdon as they went behind with the game still in its infancy.

It didn’t take long for them to get back on terms, however, as Caine Davey found the net with a fine volley.

They were soon ahead thanks to Joe Slade, who did well to close down his man before finding the net.

This time it was United’s turn to hit back and they did just that to make it 2-2 before Davey completed his brace before the break.

A scrappy second half saw little in the way of goalmouth action, but that bothered Bovingdon little as they held on to pick up all three points.
