Shannon Courtenay has praised Jamie Mitchell for her victory at the weekend and has promised to be world champion again soon.

The former WBA world bantamweight title holder had her belt stripped from her after failing to make weight ahead of what was due to be her first defence, before losing for the second time in her professional career the evening after.

In a post on her Instagram, the 'Baby Face Assassin' said she needed to address some issues outside of the ring before she began preparations for the rematch.

"Sometimes when your [sic] in there it feels like you’ve done enough to get the win but obviously that wasn’t the case last night," wrote Courtenay.

"Congratulations to Mitchell & her team the better woman won. Enjoy being world champion it’s the best feeling in the world. I now need to address a couple issues outside of the ring that I’ve been dealing with privately so that I can be 100% for the rematch to make sure I win my world title back!

"Thank you to everyone for the support & sorry to anyone I’ve let down but I promise you I’ll be world champion again soon.

"Thank you to my incredible team without them I wouldn’t of [sic] coped the last couple months it’s been a very difficult time for me & thank you to my loyal sponsors I’m forever grateful to have you."
