If you’re looking for a prediction for this morning’s Women’s World Cup Final, then a 2-1 win for England over Spain is the consensus of opinion among Watford Women.

A number of the squad gave their thoughts ahead of today's showpiece at Stadium Australia in Sydney (11am UK time, live on BBC One and ITV1), when a new name will go on the trophy.

Having won the Euros already, it would be great to see England become world champions as well, and that is what the majority of Watford players think will happen – although newly-appointed General Manager Helen Ward is predicting penalty heartbreak for the Lionesses!

Anne Meiwald, defender: “I’ll go with 2-1 England, Keira Walsh as the key player for the Lionesses and Aitana Bonmatí, Walsh’s Barca teammate, for Spain.”

Megan Chandler, defender: “I would say 2-1 to England with Lauren Hemp and Alessia Russo to score. Spain's most dangerous player will be Salma Paralluelo, she’s looked really bright despite her young age.”

Flo Fyfe, winger: “1-0 to England, a close game, after extra-time. Lauren James is a game-changer, she’ll make the difference. Hermoso is an experienced forward for Spain, she could be dangerous.”

Drè Georgiou, midfielder: “England to win on penalties. If Lauren James is brought back in she’ll be key, if not, Chloe Kelly will step up in another big game. Spain’s Paralluelo really impressed me against Sweden and scored a vital goal.”

Harley Bennett, defender: “Bonmatí’s midfield runs will be difficult for England to stop, she can shift it in the box and score. Russo will be our main threat I reckon. I’ll go for 2-1 to England, Bonmatí to score for Spain, with Russo and Kelly scoring for us.”

Melis Mehmet, midfielder: “Lauren James can come back in, she’s not had to play as much and she’ll be raring to go. Bonmatí will do really well for Spain and keep up a really good run of form. I’ll go bold and predict another 3-1 win for England, with Lauren James scoring a hat-trick!”

Helen Ward, General Manager: “It’ll be 2-2 after extra time, Spain to win on penalties. England’s key player will be Lauren James, with Bonmatí as Spain’s main threat.”

Abbie Lafayette, defender: “I’ll be unpopular and say 2-1 to Spain. Lauren James will be England’s key player, with Alba Redondo being important for Spain.”

Ellie Head, midfielder: “2-1 to England. Lauren Hemp will keep up her good form, and Ona Batlle will be vital to keeping Spain in the game, I back her to score as well.”
