Oxhey Jets were rewarded for a long, difficult midweek journey to Camberley with a battling 3-2 victory over Bagshot in Division One of the Combined Counties League last night.

Jets had beaten their opponents 5-1 at the Boundary Stadium just two weeks ago, but they came up against a much stronger Bagshot side that showed seven changes from the previous match.

The visitors, looking to bounce back from Saturday’s 3-0 home defeat to leaders Amersham Town, opened the scoring on 14 minutes.

Jameel Murshid, making a welcome return to the side, put in a fine cross and Andre Lopes was on the mark with a diving header that gave the Bagshot keeper no chance.

Olly Pope had to be substituted moments later due to a back problem and Roy Byron came on to marshal the midfield.

Bagshot pushed hard for the equaliser and it needed several strong saves from Lewis Lavin to preserve Jets’ lead at the break.

Remell Stirling replaced James Kimber at half-time as the visitors looked to play on the front foot.

Bagshot, however, continued to apply the pressure at the start of the second half and got their reward with a 54th-minute equaliser.

Jets’ responded to being pegged back in positive fashion and regained the lead six minutes later thanks to a superb individual goal from Dylan Hickman Singh. He attacked down the line, came inside, and finished with a reverse cut shot that zipped past the keeper.

The visitors made three substitutions in the 65th minute, bringing on Harry Brady and two of Jets’ young Herts County League players, George Rice and Vinny Wade - a real show of commitment from Tom Inch and Dave Barnes in giving opportunities to the club’s up-and-coming talent even though the match was on the line.

What looked like being the match-clinching third goal for Jets came in the 83rd minute when Stirling was the quickest to react to a goalmouth scramble and fired home.

However, Bagshot surged back in the closing stages to halve the advantage to one goal, but Jets were able to hold on for the three points to leave them 12th in the table.
