Kelly Smith could be offered the chance to join the Women's Professional Soccer League and complete a dramatic return to America.

The Watford-born England Ladies star spent seven years in the US, playing for Seton Hall University, Philadelphia Charge and the New Jersey Wildcats.

And after returning to play for all-conquering Arsenal in 2004, Smith is being lined up to join the league in the States which starts next summer.

"I love being back home and playing for Arsenal," said Smith, "but if a big offer came in from America I'd have to consider it."

However, Arsenal Ladies coach Vik Akers believes the loss of Smith, as well as several other key England players, could have a huge knock-on effect on the domestic game, which is due to be revamped in 2010.

"If these girls and other England players go to America it could set the game here back ten years," warned Akers.
