Sarries head to Bristol tomorrow knowing only a bonus point victory will keep their EDF Energy Cup hopes alive.

The Men in Black have to muster five points and are reliant on Northampton beating the Scarlets and denying the Welsh side a bonus point. Saracens are putting a consistent run of form together and Jones insists it is important this continues at the Memorial Stadium.

The director of rugby said: "Our intention is to field a very strong side and for us, without anything against the competition, it's just important we keep marching forward. Historically it's been written a lot that this club has peaks and troughs.

"We just want to be flatlining. If we go into a trough we want to make sure it's only a little one. We don't want massive peaks, we just want to keep going like that. Bristol is another chance to move the club forward and that's how we are looking at it."

Bristol have made a desperate start to the season and cannot qualify for the last-four of the EDF Cup. They are propping up the league table after suffering five successive defeats in the Guinness Premiership. Saracens won at Bristol 23-16 at the start of the month but they know they will have to make a fast start to have any chance of reaching the EDF semi-finals.

Jones will not be able to call on Steve Borthwick, who is away with England, but he has recalled Michael Owen, Glen Jackson and Hugh Vyvyan for the final Pool D game. Tom Ryder and Rodd Penney are also brought into the side after being on the bench against Northampton last week.

He added: "Bristol have a strong rugby tradition and they have a great pride in their own performance. We have already won there once but this will be an even more difficult game."
