Defender Leigh Bromby said he didn’t want to leave Sheffield United in the first place after he re-joined the Blades less than a year after moving to Watford.

The 28-year-old completed a loan move back to the Blades yesterday and is almost certain to make the switch permanent at the end of the season for an undisclosed fee.

Speaking to United’s website, Bromby said: “I’m buzzing, I’m delighted to be back. I didn’t really want to leave in the first place and I’ve jumped at the chance to come back.

“There were other opportunities but when I heard United were in for me, this was the move. I know a lot of the lads and it will be great to get re-acquainted. I’ve not worked with Kevin (Blackwell) but I’ve heard good things.”

Bromby is not able to play in United’s FA Cup replay against Leyton Orient this evening as he is cup tied after coming on as a substitute in Watford’s win over Scunthorpe, but he will be in contention to start against the Hornets on Saturday.

Ironically, Bromby’s last appearance for the Blades came against the Golden Boys, two days before he made his move to Vicarage Road on January 31 2007.

The two sides are at opposite ends of the table, with United flying high in fourth and Watford struggling in 19th place.

Bromby made 46 appearances for the Hornets and believes he has improved as a player during that time.

He added: “The team is flying at the moment but I want to get back into the team as soon as possible. The fans know what I am about and I’d like to think that I’ve improved in the year that I have been away.”
