Watford FC statement on new board

The chairman of Watford Football Club, Andy Wilson, is today pleased to announce the appointment of four new non-executive directors to the club’s board, including former manager Graham Taylor.

Taylor, 64, returns to the club with which he is most closely associated, having previously had two spells as manager, on both occasions leading the club to the top-flight of English football.

He is joined on the board by returning directors Jimmy and Vince Russo, as well as former chairman Stuart Timperley.

Speaking of the announcement, Wilson commented: “When I became chairman I said that I would seek to put together a broad, independent board that would best reflect this club and provide us with stability.

“Into the New Year I have had numerous conversations with people whose input I value and as a consequence I am now able to announce the beginning of the board restructuring.

“I have invited Jimmy and Vince Russo to re-join the board. I have also asked Graham Taylor and Stuart Timperley to become directors of the company. I am pleased to say that all of them have accepted these invitations.

“This will create a board of six people, four of whom are not major shareholders in Watford Leisure PLC and, importantly, may be said to be fans first and foremost.

“I am particularly delighted that Graham has accepted our invitation. He clearly has significant other football commitments and we do not therefore anticipate him being at every game, but having him join the board will add significantly to its depth of football experience.

“Jimmy and Vince Russo need no introduction. I want them to be closely associated with the club and I anticipate them working extensively to help balance the financial demands of the club with our collective desire for on-field success.

“Stuart Timperley was, as many of you will be aware, a previous chairman of the club and a long-time supporter. Stuart has a wealth of business and football experience which will help us immeasurably as the board look to address some tough challenges ahead.

“I anticipate that I will extend at least two more invitations to join the board over the next month. I hope to report these to you once the respective parties have confirmed their willingness to act as directors.

“I would also like to take the opportunity to re-affirm that should there be a person who shares the vision of the board for a financially stable, competitive and fan-friendly Watford and is capable of adding to the financial resources of the club then the board would be willing to talk to that party as to how they could become involved with the club.

“Finally I would like to ask that all who hold a special place for Watford in their hearts make a real effort to come to Vicarage Road over the next two months and support Brendan as he begins to build a team that we can all be proud of.”

wonderful news even if not the financial solution. I am sure they are all good people and will help direct Watford in the way we as fans all want.
Good words at the end from Wilson to unite the team and fans and show some positive support for what we have.

Yellows!

This fills me with no excitement whatsoever. We still have BR. We still have a defense that leaks goals. Can't see that any of this announcement will help us in avoiding relegation.

hogweed, people like you deserve relegation!!!
support the flaming team (not allowed to use the words I wanted to). BR has only had 11 games in charge and I am fed up with people wanting him sacked already. Some of you were saying he should be sacked after about 5 games. Get a grip.
UUUUUUUU OOOOOOORRRRNNNNNNNSS
SS!!!!

Hogweed, the club needed/needs to be fixed both on and off the pitch. Give BR time for crying out loud and be thankfull that we now have a board that love the club but also have a lot of nouse about them too.

This is a very very positive thing for the club, well done to Wilson

I don't deserve relegation but the team will do if the performances of the team don't improve. As I said before all these boardroom shenanigans don't cover the fact that this Watford team is the worse I have ever seen in 30 years of following the club. 4 loan players are not going to save us. 6 goals conceded in the last two games giving us possibly the worst defence in the Championship. BR is totally out of his depth. Managing Chelses reserves is no CV for saving us from relegation.

Hogweed, do you think any other manager would have fared better than BR in the circumstances and if so who!?

At least BR has been able to bring in some good young players on loan (probably on good terms for WFC i.e. not paying their full wages), something that would not have happened probably with anyone else therefore meaning the club would have had to struggle on with pretty much the same team that helped get the club in this mess in the first place.

As to Chelsea's reserve team manager not being up to the job may I remind you that when AB came to us he wasn't even reserve team manager at Leeds (a club three divisions lower than Chelsea) and despite how it panned out in the end we all know how his time in charge started off.... Quite frankly whilst I appreciate your concern for the club it seems your talking out of your behind here.

Instead of moaning on, why not suggest what you think the club should do, including dont forget which manager we should approach who would be better than BR and up for the job? And where it should get funds from, and how it should attract players with no money and how it should offload players that no one else wants? All things that BR has been landed in the middle off and agreed to take on

The three loan players have added nothing. They are too young and inexperienced to save us from relegation. I would have given the job to Malky. As far as Aidy is concerned his performance after we got promotion was risible leading me to think that his promotion success was more down to a fluke mainly brought about by the signing of Marlon King and the rapid development of Ashley Young.

I just hope he takes note now that tippy tappy passing will get us nowhere for now.

Fine in the future if we get the players...but we just need points now and hopefully GT can help Rodgers do this.
