Aleksandrs Cauna says the four months he spent on loan at Watford were the best of his career and hopes to return next season.

The Latvian winger moved to Vicarage Road from Skonto Riga on February 2 and made five appearances for the Hornets, scoring in the 2-2 draw with Southampton.

Brendan Rodgers brought in Cauna as the 21 year old had been on trial at Chelsea while Rodgers was Reserve team manager.

Cauna told UEFA.com: "The atmosphere at matches [in England] is unforgettable. The four months at Watford were the best of my career and I really want to go back."

He added: "It seemed at times that these guys were just flying over the pitch.

"If you start thinking after receiving a ball, you have lost it. You don't have any time to make decisions. Initially training made my head spin but I got used to it and now I'm stronger, both mentally and physically.”

It is unclear how much money Skonto Riga would want for Cauna, who has become a regular for Latvia, and Watford could struggle to match their valuation.

Rodgers is a fan of Cauna but that did not mean the Watford manager went easy him.

"Football in England is a battle," Cauna said.

“The team tried to play creative football but our manager Brendan Rodgers had a go at me for being too direct in attack. He wanted me to improvise and show more individual skill up front."
