Watford supporters' organisation hoping for quick appointment

Watford Supporters Trust has expressed their disappointment at Brendan Rodgers’ decision to move and believe his reputation has been “severely damaged” in Hornets fans eyes.

A statement released by the fans' organisation this afternoon said: “The board of the Watford Supporters Trust (WST) were very disappointed to hear the news of Brendan Rodgers’ decision to take the manager’s position at Reading.

“Having recently made statements stating that the speculation linking him with the vacant position at Reading brought his integrity and loyalty into question, his subsequent decision to talk to Reading about their vacancy has severely damaged his reputation in the eyes of Watford fans. However we do thank Brendan for his efforts last season and wish him well for the future.

“We hope that the board of the football club move quickly to appoint a new manager who can then start to plan for what will be a very challenging season.”

I am not entirely sure why he is so proud of what he achieved at Watford? We nearly got relegated! He had promise, yes, no doubt helped by Mr Lampard and his huge wage for a part timer. I watched the Reading away game on Sky and was embarrassed. Not only were we hammerred, but Reading didnt even play well.

It has to be said he did a good job in turning events around this season, but he has not achieved anything yet and I hope he doesn't at Reading. He has the potential to be a very good manager, but he needs to show clubs some loyalty if he wants the big ones to trust him.

Aidy did well at the beginning, and was loved by many of us, but the novelty wore off and now he has had 192 days away from management. Does that make him a bad manager all of a sudden? Watch out BR, the fans will turn very quickly if you don't live up to expectations.

I am not surprised that he left, he knew from day 1 what was in store! Lets stop using excuses that the crooks did not make hin aware of our siyuation and thats why he chose 2 sign a 1 year rolling contract, fact! Now lets stop using this basis as his reason the fact is regardless, he would still of left us if Reading came calling. Lets move on and get Malky installed wiv Gibbsy & GT.

I don't have a problem with him leaving but have a huge problem with the bull he fed us prior to going.
It has been suggested in some emails that he went because we would not afford Rasiak. If he felt we should pay £10k plus a week to anyone at all in our current situation then he clearly has not been listening.
I'm sure Jimmy Russo will be absolutely livid. Did BR enjoy his recent European jolly and reunion with his old ( and probably future) boss at our club's expense when he knew he was going to go to Reading?
When BR arrived he played sideways Wilkins style football. Things improved only when he changed to a methodology that was very similar to that used by Malky in the few games he had in charge. So I think we might have stayed up even if BR had not arrived.
He did sign Williamson but as this was in line with the policy already outlined by Jimmy Russo would we have found him anyway?
Give Malky the job and use GT's contacts to get a few good young loan signings in.
BR will probably be back for Smith, Williamson and maybe even dear old Lloyd.
McInuff has previously said that he will stay only if BR is here so he might be off also.
Anyone that wants to go should go and let Malky get on with things with Dyke. Anyone that doesn't try very hard with those two on their case is much braver than me.
Ig Giibbs gets the push from Reading then he should join the coaching staff.
This would also no doubt reduce overall expenditure.

salehornet - you're absolutely right. The difference is (and I probably speak for many here) that we would say we are moving for money or prospects. We don't lie about it. Its not the money that angers so many, its the comments he made, both before and after. Its like the guy has just cheated on his wife and he's told her she's disloyal for questioning his whereabouts! Joke.

One day someone in football will tell the truth.

Madejski says he was the stand out candidate in the applicants. Did he apply?

Russo says he rejected the approach then RFC hit the level of offer that released BR. Yet when Peterborough say NO that is the end of it?

Were illegal approaches made?

Was BR a liar or did he go because Russo was prepared to let him go when compensation was agreed.

Maybe everyone in soccer has the morals of an agent.

As for the trust remind me what they said about Homer and Boy Blunder and the accounts months before they left....Er are they really in a position to judge BR. reputation severely damaged well they would know all about that...Employees of WFC who were scared to speak out against Blunder is understandable but Trust volunteers??

As I understand the story, Reading were aware of Mr Coppell's impending departure back in January. Word was out in footballing circles then and applications were received from many quarters including one from "south west herts" How long he will be loyal will depend on the return of his mentor.Im very disappointed that Clodagh chose to go back on his word and belittle us all. But I can understand the reasons for his decision.

tonyevans22, what are you talking about.Of course the Board are worried about money. Without it you go bust! No investor will put more money in when Ashcroft and Simpson hold the majority. They would be stupid if they did. As for your insults of Jimmy, he has built his own business in the face of supermarket buying power. For a nobody like you to suggest he has no balls when he has taken our basket case of a club on to try to rescue it is bang out of order. You owe him an apology. Have you got the balls to issue it on this site. If so I will withdraw my suggestion you are a nobody.

Why do people refer to MM as the cheap option. I dont suppose he is being paid much less than the £6ooo p/w that Clodagh was on. On the one hand we all state that WFC have to dig themselves out of the financial mess that they are deeply in, but we dont want to pay for quality leadership on the playing side. Second tier professional football is not like sunday league pub football. If WFC move on there will be a price to pay. What the price is though is anyones guess.

BR was instrumental in getting us out of an unholy mess last term, but what he evidently has in ability is not matched by what appears to be a lack of morals. To leave after just 6 months is bad form, made 20 times worse by the false talk about integrity and loyalty.

It looks on the face of it to me that the Russos have handled this as well as possible given the circumstances - however I wonder if they were able to pencil anything in whereby Reading can't buy any of our players for a year or something?

I had been looking to Newcastle as the match to win next year, not now - it's Reading I really want to see us beat!
