Mackay knocked off top spot by bookmakers

Andy Hessenthaler has replaced Malky Mackay as the favourite to be Watford’s new manager with two leading firms of bookmakers.

Sky Bet temporarily suspended betting on the Dover Athletic boss taking charge at Vicarage Road yesterday after his odds were substantially backed down and he is now priced 4/5. Victor Chandler’s odds are even shorter though, with the former Gillingham player-manager on offer at 4/7.

Hornets coach Mackay is best priced at 2/1 with Victor Chandler in what is now developing into a two-horse race to succeed Brendan Rodgers if the bookmakers are to be believed.

Nigel Gibbs has drifted to 7-1 with Sky Bet, while Dennis Wise is available at 8-1, but there appears to be some support for three outsiders with Victor Chandler.

Peter Taylor and Gus Poyet are priced at 12/1, the same as a new name who entered the reckoning publically last night, Alex Inglethorpe.

The Club are interviewing 3 candidates this afternoon, Malky, Hessie, and McInnes

Don't know much about McInnes but reckon WBA is his destination. Other 2 are fine, even if there are some on here lathering up over AH's departure how many years ago? He was a player who gave us good honest service and was coveted by a lot of managers in his time with us. Why do some fans treat Tommy Mooney as a hero (he is) but not AH? Both left in similar circumstances for better offers. GT will have to calm you all down if AH gets the job with some sound reasoning that is lacking in some of you.

Considering the board have said they will take time to decide this would be a surprise...bare in mind we don't even have permission to talk with 2 of the managers!

His a born motivator and a good bloke too. No, I would not have a problem with Hessy especially as GT I,m sure, would be involved. My smart money is still on Malky but lets see what develops.

passion is fine, but what kind of style of play would Hess utilise. We need to tap into the loan market and I'm not sure how succesful he would be. Still I suppose we won't get champagne with lemonade money!

Get real! The Russos haven't enough money to keep us in the Championship. BR has gone. Smith, McAnuff and Priskin will follow. So, probably, will O'Toole. And we haven't emough cash to even sign Rasiak. Whoever is the Manager will be fighting relegation. Only SEJ has the money and he has done enough for the Club and won't do more. We need a very, very clever Manager to avoid the drop. None of our old players, however loyal, have the calibre. I know nothing about the Scot that's being talked about. Poyet is the best of the rest that are mentioned (perhaps he could be a Di Matteo). So, give the job to MM. I don't think there's anyone better and that, sadly, is not meant to be a compliment.

I've not really got a problem with Hessy coming back to manage. Just hope he now realises that watford is not in Kent (it seemed take him by surprise last time round).

He appears to have done ok in his previous jobs and certainly has more experience than the fella we managed to offload onto Reading.

Hessy would be a good move in my opinion. He udnerstands what the club is about, had four years of keeping Gillingham playing above what might be considered their natural level and won 33/42 games last season with Dover playing very good football.

Yes, in non league you complete dope. I think the championship is rather a big step up, wouldn't you agree>

All three candidates are total pathetic dross which just about sums up the ambition of this club and the majority of imbeciles on here who claim to be supporters.

If AH or MM are appointed then you might as well throw away your season tickets now....what's wrong with the lot of you - it would be an unmitigated disaster.

What calibre of player is AH likely to attract? Oh, let me think....a "gem" from non league, another one "for the future".

We've all seen enough of them.

WFC are fast becoming an embarrassment and this board is starting to lack any credibility. If GT has recommended any one of these three then he needs to go now! He was out of touch with the modern game back in 2001 when he quit - much more so now it would seem.

I cannot forsee us winning a single game under this total moron....and under MM it would still be relegation by Easter.

We need to go after a fairly big name with experience of this division....someone with the right transfer connections - not dross from Scotland or non league football.

This is demoralising and depressing.

Right what big name manager out of a job do you think we can actually afford and would want to come and work with very limited funds?

I presume you are talking about a Pardew or Curbishley...well fair enough if we had more dosh to have lots of ambition but well thanks to previous members of the club we haven't.

If it was anyone else I'd probably be inclinded to agree with certain of your points such as can they attract players (not that we are in any great money position to attract much more than another M.Williamson or Cowie) but knowing you there will be some problem with whowever we appoint and well if we don't win the first 4 games it will be "GET x out"!

BTW Hessy managed Gillingham in this league so would have more experience than most managers linked if that is the main complaint (which I understand) and if we had the money Id' go for a Pardew if he wanted the job but we don;t...

AH - Good player wore his heart on his sleeve but got greedy so lets not forget the manner of his going. Loyalty ranking 1/100. Surely we can't be serious, trawling around conference south for new faces! His only contacts are obtained via 118. It has to be someone with credibility who can operate the loan market which also possibly goes against MM unless GT is going to assist in this regard. Still it could be worse; we have a league team and haven't got a long streak of useless p**s as a fraud of a manager who will be struggling with unintelligible tactics to break down Ebbsfleet.
