Watford director Graham Taylor calls for club to back Malky Mackay

Graham Taylor calls for stability Graham Taylor calls for stability

Watford legend Graham Taylor claims if the club’s board of directors haven’t got the appointment of Malky Mackay right then they will need to look at themselves.

Taylor, who is the Hornets’ most successful manager of all time, believes it is important the club support Mackay for a reasonable period of time rather than sack him at the first sign of trouble.

He was part of the selection committee which appointed Mackay, which also included chairman Jimmy Russo, vice-chairman Vince Russo and chief executive Julian Winter.

Taylor told Sport.co.uk: "I frighten the chairman and the board of directors when I say the constant change in manager proves we haven't got it right, and if we haven't got this right we should look at ourselves.

"We must support the manager for a sensible period of time otherwise it will be goodbye to us, which is what we should do with a lot of directors.

"But we have a manager who knows we aren't in a tremendous financial position and has bought into what we are. We are ambitious, we want to win things, but we must never put the future of the club at risk."

Good old GT, at last somebody who says it as it is. MM has the fans and the team behind him, he is aware of the situation at the club and is probably as experienced as anybody in this league, having been here for 10 years - although not as a manager.

If the board only interviewed one person when they could have spoken to more, and it turns out wrong, then they must take a share of the blame. In the same way if it proves to be a great success then they deserve their share of the praise.

I hope GT is more involved and that MM calls on all his experience to help him progress and take the club forward. What we want is a manager who will give us success and long term stability, and not somebody who is just using us as a springboard for their own career. MM has shown us loyalty and lets hope we all get behind him and the club don't let him go if he proves to be a good manager.

much-rate is a very appropriate security word for this article. Well done random machine programmer!!

I cannot understand all the fuss about "legend" Taylor.
Apart from "winning" a couple of promotions, can someone on here please tell what exactly his teams have won?
He was so clearly out of depth as England manager. A complete embarrassment to be quite honest. "Do I not like that".
I think that after that he was regarded as a joke figure, someone to be laughed at.
After The Sun depicted him as a "Turnip", he went to work for them.

Well he's never won your precious LDV Vans Johnsons Paint embarrassment Shield, because he hasn't managed at such a pathetic level to qualify since they started the thing.

A pathetic level you are now beneath.

Few games against LUTON were some of the highlights, along with promotion to the premier league.

Possibly GT's legendary status has something to do with taking us from a mid table 4th division team to runners up behind Liverpool in the first division as well as europe and wembley. We have also won the 3rd & 4th division titles but I guess the double of relegation from the league and the mickey mouse cup must be better!!

This guy is soooo bitter. Still i dont blame him, he supports a joke of a team who play at a joke of a ground in what is one of the worst, most dirty, depresing and naff towns in the country.

Oh yeah, that great stadium that you lot play at. Just how old is that stand (Sponsored by Asbestos).
I thought you had £70 million not so long ago.
I wonder where that went?
Well it did not go on amenities for you morons. I think you,ve been conned big time.
Many Twatford fans I know are soooo embarrassed by that distgusting edifice what passes as a stand.
Will any of you admit even that?

mo, i understand it must be difficult to stomach, your team being in the 5th tier of football and Watford being in the championship, given that in the past you were a bigger club than us...........about 30 years ago? My advise is move on and either get off this site or come and support a proper club. In so far as winning things, the play offs against bolton and leeds that took us to the premier league ring any bells? Also not only did GT take us to 2nd place in the top flight, but he did that with villa. compare that to your most succesful manager.......1st prize for indiscrete kerb crawling was the best he could manage. As for your insinuation that our club blew 70 million, i'll accept the board at that time spent unwisely, but at least they were honest.....not something your club can boast about.....30 point deduction sound familiar??

Now they've gone non-league, it's become too embarrassing having Luton as our derby team. It makes us look bad. We only adopted them as a favour but now it's time to find ourselves a better team.

DO Luton not have their own site so you can chat along with you fellow fans.

Going by your post on another story you seem to think the crappy old stand (which everyone admits is rubbish..) is actually the Vicarage Road End!

Mo, Take a closer look at your own club before you critcise ours. The way Luton are going you will have to turn up half hour before the match to clear the dog muck off the pitch, although everything about your club is sh*t so you could just leave it there.

Mo Tulon...It's pretty clear that you only come on here to wind people up and looks like you got some success. But let's face it, that is the only way that the word 'S' (as in success) will ever be associated with your club which soon, will no longer exist. Another 'S' word more commonly associated with Luton is 'S*!t'. In fact someone's even written a book to confirm it. It's called 'S*%t Ground No Fans' written by a guy called Jack Bremner, get a copy, turn to page 130 and read the comment on
your club..it says it all. Now run along, carry on playing with yourself and leave us to the subject of Coca-Cola Championship Football!
