Former Watford midfielder Lee Williamson confident of Sheffield United promotion challenge

Former Watford midfielder Lee Williamson claims he would not have signed for Sheffield United if he did not believe they were good enough to challenge for promotion.

Williamson moved to Bramall Lane two weeks ago for an undisclosed fee, understood to be around £500,000, after two-and-a-half years at Vicarage Road.

Former Hornets Darius Henderson and Leigh Bromby have already made the switch to Sheffield and Tommy Smith and John-Joe O’Toole have been the subject of bids.

But the 27-year-old said that was not why he made the move to the Steel City.

Williamson told United’s website: "I got off to a good start and have been welcomed. The fact that a lot of Watford players have come here was not a massive factor in me choosing to come here but it always helps when you join a new club.

"It is the same when you go out on loan - I knew some people at Preston when I went there last season "This is a big, strong and organised squad and I watched them in both semi-final play-off games when I was suspended. I could tell that everyone knew their jobs and what they were doing.

"I believe that the squad is good enough to challenge for promotion again, otherwise I would not have signed."

He's hardly going to say he joined a team because he wanted a relegation fight - this really is a non story.

Sheff Utd will be no push-overs this season with the amount of Watford players assisting them, however, Watford will finish above Utd in the Div

All good stuff Lee and the very best of luck...The Blades will be in the mix at the season end, they have a great manager, But whether you will feature in the starting team may well be a different story.

Now if we got at least £500k for Rodgers and Lee and £250k for Theo and £1.8 for Tommy and say another £300k for Jonjo less commissions we must have raised in excess of £2.5m. How much more do we need to clear?

One trick pony, they're welcome to him..

Hopefully Severin will provide some much needed bite and experience in the midfield. We've no hope of getting Cork back now C**k Head has gone to Reading.

How about tapping up a few prem. clubs for young fringe players who need regular first team football, man utd were always good for a few..
