Watford will not be attempting to sign trialist Claudio Beauvue but former Chelsea midfielder Enrique De Lucas could be in line for a move to Vicarage Road.

Beauvue has been on trial with the Hornets for almost two weeks and has played in their last two pre-season friendlies against CF Balaguer and Wealdstone.

But today the club have confirmed they will not be following up their interest in the 21-year-old and the Troyes winger has now left their pre-season tour of Spain.

His place has been taken by De Lucas, who spent a year at Chelsea in 2002, where he made more than 30 appearances in total.

The 30-year-old is expected to feature in Watford’s pre-season friendly tonight against UE Lleida.

De Lucas was only at Stamford Bridge for a year as the Blues sent him back to Alaves in the summer of 2003 because the Spanish club claimed they had agreed a pre-contract agreement with De Lucas before his move to Chelsea.

This led to a legal battle between De Lucas and the Blues, with the midfielder claiming in the region of £2.5m and it took until 2005 for the two parties to come to an agreement.
