Supporters to pick their own Watford FC's player of the season
6:41pm Monday 10th August 2009 in Sport
Tommy Smith was player of the year last year but who should recieve it this campaign. You tell us.
This season we are asking supporters to rate the Watford players after every game to help decide who should be the fans’ player of the season come May.
Pictures of all 11 players who started the match and the substitutes used will be uploaded to the player ratings section on our website in the days following the game.
Supporters can then give each player a rating and we will announce the findings a few days later.
At the end of the season, the results from every game will be collected and we should be left with a player-of-the-season voted for by the fans.
The Doncaster Rovers match has already been put up on our site so if you think Danny Graham had an excellent debut or felt Jobi McAnuff was below par, then tell us.
You can access this new function by going to the Watford FC section in sport and clicking on player ratings.

Do not know who's going to be here at the end of August let alone May!
We are being robbed blind - all for a pickled Gherkin.
R's out . They may be Businessmen but they sure ain't Football Chairmen!

The robbing has stopped with the departure of your old mates. What sort of Chairman do you want? A fantasist who claims the future is rosy?
A 'we're going to win an EGM vote cos I got a big mate on my side...hang on...this could be difficult so I will do a runner instead' type Chairman? Who paid for Marlon vOr. Come on...you are well informed, who paid for Marlon.
Spare us your ridiculous nonsense Harry...sorry vOr. You are an object of ridicule. You got it wrong, and you can't let it go can you?

The Russos are trying to save the club after the previous board took it to the brink of extinction and that means selling players seeing as our majority shareholder/richest man in the country wont dip into his extensive wallet to help out. At least the R's did even when they were marginalised and they have shown more commitment to the club than many previous owners and board members. Petchey anyone?
The previous board to their credit were trying to bring success to the club but managed to waste all the money gained from the Prem and get the club into major debt to boot, and apparently managed to line their own pockets if you believe the rumours. Anyway, spending more than you have is very risky - look at Leeds - and the Russos are trying to save the club and get it to run within its own means and thats the way it should be.
As to this scoring system sounds a bit gimmicky to me

Success is based on the field of play, the way things are shaping up we will be able to hold our own in Div 1 next season.
We have MM saying he wants TS to stay . . . JR saying he wants to get rid of him because of finances, then states we didn't sell TP because we needed the money.......
Not everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet there!
We have some real gems lined up..............NOT!
Oh and I would like a Chairman that has a little knowledge of the game, that supports us whole heartedly instead of Chelsea and is prepared to now stand by his statement of being open and honest and not falling back on the things Sir Silver Fox may or may not have done.

But we didn't,and we still have TS (for now!). To be saying R's out after the 1st match of the season is a bit premature. Personally I think that considering the mess they inherited they have done the club proud, and the supporters should be greatful.
Much the same as Kevin Arselick can't let it go...... Success is based on the field of play, the way things are shaping up we will be able to hold our own in Div 1 next season. I cannot believe that "supporters" are being so negative about the club and about the additional coverage that the Watford Observer is giving to the club.
If you dont want to vote for your best player after each match then don't.

Even Petchey managed to build a stand or two whereas your mates left us with a three sided eyesore. To make thing even worse we now have a ground with something that resembles a prison wrapped round it and even worse than that they wasted the money we got for it on one inadequate player who spent last Saturday sat on our bench.
Its impossible to defend some of the old board's decisions so why do you try?
It would be practically impossible for the Russo's to get things so badly wrong as the last lot did.

That does not mean they do not lack ambition, and as WFC has done before and others like Burnley have shown you do not need to spend a fortune to get promotion.
And what knowledge of the game did the last board have by the way VOR? Not enough to learn the lessons from clubs like Leeds for instance who they followed in their own way spending money left right and centre and leaving the club so much in debt it had no hope of repaying the loans without drastic action and even then. Not enough knowledge to be sucked in by ABs unfounded self belief either. If thats what having a board with 'football knowledge' leads to then give me business people to run the club anyday.
