Mike Williamson will leave Watford and sign for Portsmouth this afternoon in a deal which could land Watford £3m.
The centre half, who handed in a written transfer request on Thursday, travelled to the south coast this morning and is currently having a medical.
The Watford Observer understands Pompey will pay an initial £2m for the wantaway defender but that fee will rise to £3m after add-ons. The Hornets also have a large sell on clause.
Williamson has been one of Watford’s star players since signing from Wycombe Wanderers in January for around £150,000.
But he infuriated manager Malky Mackay on Friday when, after Watford had rejected his transfer request following an initial bid from Portsmouth, Williamson declared himself unfit to travel.to Swansea.
The deal represents good business for Watford but Wycombe do have a healthy sell on clause of their own, believed to be as much as 25 per cent.
