Scott Loach and Manchester United loanee both face Greece

Scott Loach and Tom Cleverley played their part in helping England Under-21s maintain their unbeaten start to Euro 2011 qualification with a 1-1 draw in Greece this evening.

Boss Stuart Pearce kept faith with the Watford keeper after he started Friday’s 2-1 success in Macdeonia, but on-loan Manchester United youngster Cleverley started an international at this level for the first time after coming off the bench in the opening group game.

England got off the ideal start in their quest to make it back-to-back wins when Danny Rose, who was on loan at Vicarage Road last season, set up Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge to put the visitors in front after just five minutes.

But the unfortunate Loach was beaten four minutes before the interval when he was wrong-footed by a 25-yard effort from Sotiris Ninis that deflected off Everton’s Jack Rodwell.

Another former Hornets loanee, Jack Cork, was an unused substitute.

Encouraging (very) report from the Press Association. These are quotes:

"England goalkeeper Scott Loach put in an inspired display as Stuart Pearce's England Under-21 side earned a creditable 1-1 draw against early pacesetters Greece in their European Championship Group Nine qualifier in Tripoli.

Loach then made a string of fine saves to keep out a profligate Greek attack lead by Kostas Mitroglou and earn a point at the Asteras Tripolis Stadium.

Greece enjoyed more of the game as the half wore on though, and they levelled five minutes before half-time through good fortune, Arsenal's Kieran Gibbs deflecting Ninis' speculative shot past a helpless Loach after 40 minutes.

England could then have fallen 2-1 behind on the stroke of half-time, but Loach made a superb point-blank save from Dimitris Siovas' header."

Well done, Scott.

A man to help save our season this year and perhaps our financial bacon before too long.

Loach did play very well indeed.
Fortunately there are still a few months before the transfer window re-opens.

Does anyone know when Loachs contract ends and has he been offered a new one any time recently?

I think he signed a new deal last season

The sheer negativity & stupidity of lutondown`s comment is depressing.

With regards to Loach,he has started the season well after a shocking display in -21 final for England.

Whilst I believe that the goal against him by Doncaster was partially down to him, he has otherwise been very good.

However Lee has also played excellently v Barnet & Leeds, and if we should get £2m + for Loach, then an adequate replacement for £250k-£500k should not be impossible.
