Heidar Helguson scores two in Watford return as Leicester City snatch late equaliser

Helguson marks return with double Helguson marks return with double

Heidar Helguson marked his Watford return with two goals during a 36-minute cameo which almost saw the Hornets come from two goals behind and win against Leicester City.

Leicester were 2-0 up at half time after two strikes from Matty Fryatt, one of which was a penalty.

But the introduction of Helguson at the break changed the game and the on loan QPR striker played his part in Watford's first goal by Danny Graham, before equalising and then handing the Hornets the lead with 23 minutes to go.

Helguson then went off injured on 81 minutes with his side 3-2 up but it looked as if they would hang on for their third consecutive win, until substitute Dany N'Guessan headed in the equaliser in injury time.

Amazing. Feeling disappointed at the end with a draw. Yet at half-time I would have been elated with a draw.

Is it my imagination but for me Cowie is not as good as last year.

Hope Helguson isn't injured. He was brilliant.

The Iceman returneth to his spiritual home and adoring subjects.
I have not heard a chant as loud as that since..when he was last here.
Watford through and through, hope the injury is minor as I see HH and DG complimenting each other.
Felt the same way, half time did not want us to be embarrassed, full time slightly dissapointed. Credit to MM, he must be the envy of the big nosed one up West! Roll on saturday.

I don't think Cowie is playing worse , I just think the players around him are playing better ! We now have at least half a dozen players who look comfortable with the ball at their feet.

Have to agree, NE is so selfish when he has possession. Did he have skates on or what? He could hardly stand up. FOOL.
Then again If I was being paid 18k a week I don't think I'd give a **** what people thought of me.
Happy days. I really think MM has done WFC proud with all his dealings and for the way we are tring to play the game.
Half time. WFC 2 down Judas's Lot 2 up FT. We have a point and Brenda's girls have none. Be afraid Rodgers, be very afraid

Completely disagree about Ellington. He is obviously desperate to get a goal, so a couple of optimistic shots, but he worked really hard, held the ball up and got a corner with 3 Leicester players around him and no support.

If he gets a decent amount of time on the pitch I'm sure he won't feel so desperate to make an immediate impression. If HH hadn't been injured, NE would have been on for 2 minutes at the end - he'll never get in form like that. I'm no NE fan, but the attitude now seem to be right, and he must have had something once upon a time!

Good game. Spirit was good too. H was as good as we all expected him to be. Even NE gave effort when he came on. - Only worry is we didn't win enough headers in our own box - hense their 3rd goal. Onwards and upwards to Reading next week!

What a game, gutted to concede at the end but agree would have taken a draw at half time. Great to see H come back, hope that it was nothing too serious. Not good going 2 down but the team showed some guts to get back into it - again they have more character than we used to

I cannot remember enjoying a match that we didnt win so much, sorry Dale missed out, but HH galvanised the team, Eustace and Loach were great..cept for that penalty John. Danny did well as did our loanees..perhaps Tom was less dangerous than normal but LCFC know him. I think Ross & Hodson need a rest and two of our more experienced players Adrian and Lloyd need to sort themselves out.

Hopefully HH will not be too badly injured, on current form over that 36 mins he was simply the best.

Just read Leicster Boss Pearson's comments on the game and the man saw a very different game to I.
He feels that it was similar to when they lost 3-2 to Brighton last year, when they were the only team in it. Sorry mate but Watford mashed you second half, and our poor defending on two occasions and a daft penalty done us over, not the fantastic football you claim to have played. Sad really as I think both teams added something to a great spectacle, and some of Watford's passing was borderline sublime if not over stated at times.
Any news on Heidar the Viking?

Well, what can we say that is negative about the kids and this side. MM/SD deserve a medal for pulling out of the hat the sub of the season so far in Heider. In 30+ mins this guy played as though he never left us and scored to memorable goals ably assisted by a team I think will surprise a lot of clubs this season. I thought the foxes played a lot of up and under balls to Howard and yes first half, it was boys v men. 2nd half we took over, should have won but on the balance of the game a draw was a fair result. Roll on next Sat, BR's final game? Wouldnt be ironic if we were the side that got him his P45!

A game of 2 halves with a fair share of well taken goals..(or iffy defending)

Not sure what Eustace was doing for the penalty but nevermind.

H coming on really lifted the crowd and fans (him on one leg would have done more than Ellington)

Well done to Hodson on the 2 assits and Graham is a real goal poacher.

Landsbury position 1st half didn't seem to suit him.

A thumping 2 fingers to those who questioned the return of H. His passion and commitment turned this game around. He won everything in the air. Scored two, set-up one. He is a God. Just hope he is there next week.

Also to those fans who booed at half-time - just what is your problem. This is a young team who have just won two games. Give them support and see what happens. The best 45 mins of football you will see us play this season.

And just how bad were the linesman and referee today.

Of course H has passion and commitment. But for how long can he remain fit and not injured? Judging by his spell at QPR, not for very long. MM may therefore have to sign a back-up (Healy?) though the combo of Graham and H looked great. The defence worried me in the first half and, again, right at the end. Did we miss Bennet? And what's the eye injury Demerit has? The central defence needed strengthening today but, wow, what a match!

Chris wot the **** are you on. Hodson was outstanding - the lad is quality - I counted one pistake inthe whole game & beating Sc*m Howard at the back stick in the air was the moment of the match - HH excluded of course.
I agree about Jenks mind has been off the pace a few games now.
Cathcart was poor but first game - we need his height so Dale had to step down although I don't think Fryatt would have succkered him for 2nd goal.
Stroke of genius to give Aidy the arm band MM - really focused his concentration & been awesome the last 3 games.
HH is god - will be gutted if he misses the trip to plastic land land next week. If it is his calf I would suggest no chance.
Along with Chris I do agree most enjoyable game in a long timed despite the free kick fiasco. In fact Chris how cn you be so right & so wrong at same time!!!
If there is a God ( other than H) we will beat that lot up the M4 next week & ger bi nose the sack

This was an important result in my mind, although it is early season. It shows that MM has the tactical nouse and leadership to use half-time for what it was designed for, change strategy as necessary and come out very fired up. Well done that man. Also to HH - I will admit I was saying that I had hoped for Healy over yourself, so well done for proving me wrong as so often coming back to refill your own boots turns sour - it sound slike you never left! It is still early days but what also fills me with confidence is that MM is only too aware that we do need a couple more signings of experienced players. To my mind we have already suprised a few this season, and with the way so many are truly playing for the shirt, this season could very well be a wonderful suprise for us all, especially after so much negativity with the financial situation and selling of our players. A new era, with young hungry players - and no egos either.

Re hogweed’s comment about Don Cowie not being as good as last season. I totally disagree. If you look at the two goals against Barnsley & Plymouth, both came from DC set pieces. The first picked out JE to head back to DG. The second was a clever, early short-corner to TC. Yesterday DC had a tough time but still delivered. The problem for the whole team 1st half was that RJ & JE were overrun in midfield. Result was DC, TC, HL & DG did not get any decent possession to create anything. Second half, the problem for DC was that he & TC had to switch wings 3 or 4 times. That helped disrupt the L City defence but it did not allow DC or TC to get into any sort of rhythm. Having said that 2 of the 3 goals came from DC’s wing and the ball he put through to HH at the very start of 2nd half was sensational. I actually think DC is our most talented midfielder. He is incredibly athletic, strong in the tackle but also our most inventive. Some balls through to DG in Barnsley game were brilliant. I would love to see DC get a run in central midfield as I think he is talented enough to run games. On a separate point, how good is it to see football played on a pitch Saracens haven’t touched for 3 or 4 months?

Wouldn't have changed my opinion at all,£3.75 mil transfer fee,15K a week and the bloke struggles to control a football.I don't think he's helped by his ridiculously large calf muscles which just seem to enhance the impression that the bloke is a clown.

Great perfomance 2nd half. But i still feel we lack a winger type player who could take on the full backs and with decent crosses H.H and D.G would score for fun. Sorry to say Cowie can not take on and beat anyone ! We had such a player Macnamee could have done that job but never really had the chance. Macenuff was useless. As for Eustace he gave them two of their goals and his passing was terrible. I am one of N.E biggest critics but even though his shooting was way off and he kept slipping over he looked a far better target man than he ever did before,He was always making spaces and holding it up and was difficult to tackle,so i dont think he deserves some of his stick..I thought Leicester looked a top 6 side so if we can more than hold our own i think we could be up there with them..Well done Malky.

RE Cowie IMO his role is different he has been moved to the right as the more experience winger and he has clearly been told to sit in front of and protect Hudson who looks very naive defensively. Hopefully when Mariappa return to right back he will look more like his old self.

Superb game - goals, action and even a dwarf fourth official to add to the fun. Shame that Eustace's brief flash of good form seems to have passed - gave away bizarre penalty, his pitiful free kick led directly to their equaliser and his all-round distribution throughout the match was Doyleyesque. Other than that - 10/10 all round

Footy forums are for offering debate - providing they are within the realms of decency and I don't think you could accuse the word cr*p being too offensive - you need to get nearer the touchline and listen to the average player/coaching staff!!

I am quite sure if the regular posters on here all got together for a beer we would discover we have far more in common than we realise....?

Fantastic game and 2nd half atmosphere. H did everything and more we hoped for. Brilliant. Thought 1st half they were far too strong for us. very strong and experienced side, and they're going to be inthe mix for a top six place. gallgher's just class, Howard a handful, and Fryatt was impressive. We weren't at it, and hoofing it to Graham when he's two lumps against him was naive. HH comes on, MM gets them going and suddenly it's panic stations in their serene defence. extraordinary. JE giving the ball away from the 90th minute free kick was inexcusable, but it was a fantastic cross and header. Hodson was excellent, Eustace didn't have a great game at all, Cowie very good..........again. lansbury probably played his last game for us after his 45 wasted mins. NE... poor lad, he's trying too hard. feel sorry for him. cathcart looked relaxed on the ball and decent in the air, but out of position a lot.
Two final points. Lino's awful, but the ref was xcellent given so much of the dross we get, and did their keeper actually have a save to make in the game?
Well done to the posh as well. Luvverly.

Guys - As a Leicester supporter (born and dragged up there) now living in Watford. I was pleased to see the game end all square in the end. Very entertaining and I think a draw was the right outcome. Good luck witht the rest of the season and I hope WT entertain you as much as they did me on Saturday.

Can't remember the last time I had so much fun at the Vic and yet we didn't win. Rip roaring second half. Well done Malky, HH and the lads. Have to say though I agree with the concerns voiced about the booing at half time. You really do wonder if people get where we are at right now. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and all but that really aint gonna help when we hit the inevitable dip in the kids form.

Dr.Oftaw says...

wasn`t the booing aimed at the ref and lino giving the free kick on the edge of the box when it looked a good penalty shout just before half time?

Interesting how at the same match we reach completely different conclusions.
We had 58% of possession and yet only half as many shots in game (on target) as Leicester. Our full backs and central defenders were at fault for two goals and allowed the cross in for JE to handle.

Were any of our defenders close to man of the match...i reckon in reality it goes to fryatt or heidar...but Hodson in second half contributed to the goals with good attacking runs albeit he had a big share of the blame in their third goal.

As for Ellington two minor appearances in last two games..three shots...one crossbar..one blocked shot and one over the top...statistically he hasnt done that badly and he plays in our colours. Now we had a total of shots on or off target totalling 8 (bbc) So in 5 mins he has 25% of them. I would agree he isnt the best striker to play for us, and certainly highly paid but does he deserve the comments made here? His one start against the blades and he was voted MoM.

Ellington deserves all he gets. The man is a complete joke.

If he showed half the commitment of Graham & Heidar he would be playing every week.

Great day Saturday even though we did not win.

RE Cowie IMO his role is different he has been moved to the right as the more experience winger and he has clearly been told to sit in front of and protect Hudson who looks very naive defensively. Hopefully when Mariappa return to right back he will look more like his old self. Bizlink did you go to the match? Cathcart had Howard a good experienced physical centre forward in his back pocket all day and he’s only what 21 / 22!
Not only did I go but I also watched closely.
Cathcart was abysmal first half and average in second.

He lost more headers than he won,got his starting position wrong for long balls and as for his challenge for 2nd goal!

AM covered him and though I am sure it was rust and he is quality, it was a poor start. AM has been superb @ CH.

Hodson is very inexperienced but he made all 3 goals and has top quality.

I agree with your assessment of Cowie`s role but he was poor v Doncaster without LH playing.

Chris, for second goal Fryatt was allowed to run a long way and then CC tackled like a novice.

JE was the realculprit for both the other goals tho others could have done better.

In both cases his stupidity caught them out

The strange thing is vOr, last time I was there, you offered to buy me a drink. I turned you down, remember? Also was it you that ran a key down my mobility scooter? Security word 'pull-loan'. Presumably that is why you know of the load of hay, only place you can pull. xx

Biz if CC had got in a tackle it would have helped but at least he was goalside, Fryatt ran through the others.

Third goal winger was allowed to get ahead and hit a superb cross.

having said all that the effort put in by JE was good but flawed and the youngsters did well considering the experienced players they were up against and as Malky said we just need to improve on seeing a match out. But at least the team play for the badge which over the last couple of years hasnt always been the case. We need to pray that heidar can recover quickly and make the next match if at all possible...to bury that lot would give some of us an awful lot of bragging rights particularly after our last visit there.
