Watford are discussing extending Tom Cleverley and Henri Lansbury’s loan spells with Manchester United and Arsenal.

Cleverley and Lansbury were exceptional during Friday’s 4-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday and Malky Mackay confirmed the Hornets were talking to the Premier League giants about extending the duo’s time at Vicarage Road beyond January, when their loan spells end.

“We are talking to their parent clubs about it. It depends on their ideas for the players, “Mackay said.

“I know that both players are happy with their training and happy with their football here. This gives them education because it educates them in the world of mens football and the Championship, rather than reserve team football.

“There is a bonus for both ourselves and Manchester United and Arsenal.”

Cleverley has scored five goals in his 11 Championship appearances since joining Watford, with only Danny Graham scoring more for the club this season.

Lansbury had not netted before Friday but his superb double against Wednesday helped the Hornets remain in the top half of the Championship.

Adrian Mariappa and Jon Harley also grabbed their first goals of the season in the victory and Mackay was delighted his side did not only rely solely on Graham and Cleverley for goals.

He said: “It is great that the goals have been shared around a bit and people are getting into positions to actually score goals and we are not relying heavily on Danny Graham every week.”
