Henri Lansbury became the third Watford player to represent England Under-21s this evening, although Stuart Pearce’s men were held to a goalless draw in their Euro 2011 qualifier in Lithuania.

The on-loan Arsenal midfielder came on as 79th-minute replacement for Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge to join Hornets team-mates Scott Loach and Tom Cleverley, who both kept their places in the side following Saturday’s 1-0 win over Portugal at Wembley.

And the former Under-19 international almost celebrated his first appearance at this level by winning a penalty in the closing stages, but the referee waved away his appeals.

England had most of the chances of note and five minutes into the second half Cleverley set up Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll, but his effort hit the bar.

Despite the frustrating result, Loach will have been pleased to keep his second successive international clean sheet.

The draw means Pearce’s troops missed the opportunity to pull level on points with Group Nine leaders Greece and hoping for a favour from Portugal, who entertain the Greeks this evening.
