Watford are hoping to extend the loan spells of Henri Lansbury and Heidar Helguson.

This afternoon's game with Bristol City is set to be the pair's final game for Watford before their current loan deals expire and they return to their respective clubs.

But Hornets boss Malky Mackay has confirmed the club are in discussions with QPR and Arsenal over the possibility of Lansbury and Helguson remaining at Vicarage Road.

Lansbury is currently in contract negotiations with Arsenal as his current deal expires at the end of the season.

Mackay said: “We have a good relationship with Arsenal and we are discussing it with them.

“We are hoping that once Arsenal and Henri's situation finishes then he comes back for the second half of the season.

“I think he enjoys being here and his game has improved since he has been here. He has had a taste of Championship football and is enjoying it so it is an environment where he wants to be in and we want him here as well.”

QPR have just appointed a new manager in Paul Hart and Mackay admits that will come into the “equation” when it comes to the Hornets' chances of Helguson remaining in Hertfordshire.

Mackay said: “Heidar is a player who has had a great impact for us and I think he enjoys being at the club and the people enjoy him being here.

“We have had constant discussions with QPR and they have had a change of manager there so that will come into the equation as well, but we are talking to them about extending Heidar's loan.”

The future of Scott Loach continues to be discussed in the national media, with Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Everton all linked with the 21-year-old.

But when asked if there has been any contact from clubs over Loach, Mackay responded: “Absolutely none. No bids, no contact at all. He is my goalkeeper and I have said on record that I want him to be here.”

wish we could buy them both

H belongs here, and Henri's career could only improve by a permanent move to the vic. Its not as if we'd block him from moving on in a couple of years

My only worry with H is that sometimes we play too long with him in the side but he'll always been a threat and whilst Lansbury isn't as effective as Cleverley he has the skill to turn a game.

I'd like to think we'd get more loans in to replace them!

I guess it depends on where we finish up with the new owners that GT has backed.

With Danny Graham I like what he does but in all honesty I dont think he is a striker, he works hard creates chances but is no goal machine.

Given that whilst Lansbury is class and Heidar on his day is worth having I cant help but feel we need a striker and that should be our main target. Whether we can borrow Beattie from Stoke or beg Wellbeck from Man U, I dont know but with Eustace, Cleverly, Lansbury, Jenkins, Cowie, Harley and severin in midfield along with Graham we do need to beef up the front two for home games, the midfield should be able to take care of itself.

Now you're no longer associated with the 'Fatty one' I suppose the January player predictions will dry up........
Or are you going to spurt out the names of Darren Ward and Wes Hoolihan again?

Can anyone inform me if our loan signings cost us anything? Or do we pay part of their wages to enable them to play regular football. After all their clubs are making use of our team in keeping them match fit so both parties benefit.

Further to my last posting, can any of the more informed tell me why Portsmouth paid a reported 3M for Williamson and yet have not played him in any match?

Because Williamson only went there as cover...Pompey brought some other centre halves in at the same time.

He probably wouldn't care...if he was actually being paid!

As for youre 1st post...I think we pay some of the wages (including 8k on Helguson!)

Thanks for the info.I knew there would be a whizz kid who knew the answers. But what you say is probably the reason Pompey sacked their manager, not because of poor results but because of his waste of club finances.

TBH I am not sure Paul Hart was the problem in terms of spending (although what little money he had clearly wasn't spend that well) but just Pompey in general had a load of players on high wages they couldn't afford.

Don't quite understand how they are in such a mess though with players not being paid although not paying the Taxman won't help.

It is a warning though for clubs who wish for investment...unlike Man U/Liverpool who cover their debts with the money coming in it seemed Pompey couldn't get such revenue to cover costs.
