Bristol City will not be signing Watford midfielder Jon Harley.

Bristol’s interest in the former Chelsea man was revealed yesterday and Hornets manager Malky Mackay confirmed last night there had been an approach from City but it had “gone quiet”.

However, Robins boss Gary Johnson has today announced they are no longer interested in the 30-year-old following the signing of Barnsley’s Jamal Campbell-Ryce last week.

"He [Harley] was on our list and we did ask about him, but since we've signed Jamal there's nothing there now," Johnson told the club's official website.

"I think that's probably Jon's agent or representatives making others aware of his availability."

We should never let him go but the Scott and his obsession with the kids will ensure that Harley will be gone by the end of the window.

Mackay has also just said that Buckley is not part of his immediate plans and with the boy McGinn only likely to be on the bench, what a shambles of a transfer policy this is.

So we take to the field with the same team that has failed to win for almost two months. No defender, no experience, no hope for Saturday.

Mackay is fast becoming the most incompetent manager since Roeder in my view.

We have no money, just a few weeks ago we had no future. Feel sorry for C. Palace because there but for the grace of Lord A go WFC - we could be looking at -10 pts and being in the bottom 3 right now. So please, Rick Holden Forever and all you other Malky bashers stop being so blindly and persistently negative about the club you are supposed to support. If we finish 10th or there about this season that will be success beyond expectation. Championship and financial survival and building for the future is what this season is all about - so signing cheap youngsters with potential is a sensible move. Get real and Get off Malky's back. Or go and support the s**m if you want to see where unrealistic ambition and dodgy deals takes you.....

Let's see him play at left back. Doyley can go on the right, and LH can have a rest. We still need a central defender.

Rick Holden, we all know that the two younger signings this month are long term and will mean we won't have to rely so much on loanees next season. If we could get the players we need now then all will be well.

I am not sure what you would have done in the transfer window with the fund restriction Malky has got. Unfortunately there is not a lot of strength in depth as he has been left with players that many of us might agree with him not selecting. Please give your 18 man squad for the next match, from what he has available. Then also give us the names of the first 4 players you would go for on the market, stating how much you would pay for them or whether they would be loanees. You are obviously an expert, so show us how good you are!!

I'm not talking about silly signings, but surely getting an experienced central defender on loan cannot be that difficult. Covering that area must be the priority in this window. There must be experienced centre backs from top half championship/ bottom half premiership teams waiting to get out and play first team football.

Hexham has it spot on give LH a much needed rest and Rick Holden, give us a rest! Support the team for goodness sake!

okay lets look at the facts we have not won since demerrit returned to the centre of defence also everyone states we need a new centre back yet our manager spends the little money we get hold of on a winger and midfielder someone dosent know what they are doing 10th isnt success for a fan who wants his team to play in the premiership

Are you related to Gordon Brown? Can't you give a straight answer to a simple question? The question was: "Please give your 18 man squad for the next match, from what he has available. Then also give us the names of the first 4 players you would go for on the market, stating how much you would pay for them or whether they would be loanees." Please answer this and then we can take your comments more seriously? Malky has had to work in very difficult circumstances and all you can do is slate him. Well help him out with some of your great ideas. Put up or shut up.

I am not being negative about MM but I don't understand Dr. Oftaw's posting. Lord A saved us from losing 10 points. What has that to do with MM? We need a Central Defender, we need a Skipper and we need another Striker. We did not need McGinn this season. Buckley? Perhaps.

There are probably experienced centre backs, yes, waiting to get out and play first team football. But we can't afford them.
Do try to keep up, there's a good chap.

Steady on...he hasn't wasted the millions like Vialli/Boothroyd just yet.

Agreed we must be able to get an experience playerr or two in..

I am not sure what good leaking goals hear and there is doing to the cofidence of certain players...

Trouble is the defence has a "leader" who isn't one and wants out anyway in the summer so how bothered/comitted is DeMerit?

I doubt a defender is likely to turn up, not sure if the right player is about anyway. I fear the defence looked better without demeritt. I think the keeper fails to support the back 4 at set plays and looks poor at crosses. He like many keepers is a great shot stopper, but Loach has a worse record than richard lee with basically the same back four. Shittu made more impact as a goal scorer than goal stopperin his second season with us. The fact is Gavin mahon protected the defence far more effectively than Eustace. a role undertaken effectively by Cort last year. I think welimp across the line into another championship season next year. That will be the time to addresss the defence (and i include the keeper)

sorry but i have to agree with rick the pr!ck, we really need a central defender. i ve been a season ticket holder for 15 years. im watford till i die but are defence is shocking. too many goals conceded.(lucky we have loach or a few more goals would of been conceded).
any thing else i wouldnt agree with rick. malky is the man to take us forward.

Please don't make out he's some sort of leading light into insight and opinion making.
We have all known what the team needs. Most fans have been saying this and it's not disloyal to have another opinion Stuboy1983.
He is anti -Watford and it's his problem.

Hexham Hornet ( John I presume) I agree with most of what is being said and I applaud the purchase of young emerging talent for tthe future. But we do need to ensure that we have a future in this division. Fo me Jay and Adrian are not working effectively and we need to do something quickly. I have always felt that Jay coming into professional football so late has missed out on some of the basics and his positional sense often lets him down. I appreciate his commitment and mobility but it is just his reading of the game that lets him down sometimes. We do need an experienced centre back and goal scorer/poacher.

It doesn't take a genius to work out we need a central defender. We've need one since the start of the season.
