Neil Renault speeds away to win Watford Half Marathon

In-form runner Neil Renault won the Watford Half Marathon this morning.

The 26-year-old produced a quick time of 1.06.58 to finish 43 seconds ahead of last year's winner, Moroccan Hicham Ettaichmi. Mehretab Solomon was third in 1.08.16.

Renault's victory was no surprise because he has already won in Edinburgh this year at the Great Winter Run.

Almost 2,000 runners competed in Cassiobury Park with dry but cold conditions.

In the women's event, Debbie Walters was a clear winner reaching the finish line in 1.16.31. The Birchfield Harriers athlete was delighted to beat her target of 77 minutes which enabled to qualify as an elite runner in the London Marathon.

Shona McIntosh was the runner-up in 1.20.43 and Charlotte Penfold third in 1.21.13.

For a full report of the action see Friday's Watford Observer.

Wandering to the park this morning with our dog I was reminded this event was on by all the luminous-clad athletes making their way to Cassiobury. Congratulations to everyone who took part, and even greater congratulations to what must be a small army of volunteers who get these events to happen. Fantastic stuff!!
