Boss hints at possible keeper move
WATFORD may be in the thick of a promotion hunt but Adrian Boothroyd is already planning for next season. And the Watford manager has hinted that Yves Makabu-Ma-Kalambay may be part of that process.
The 20-year-old joined the Hornets on a one-month loan from Chelsea in time to provide cover for Alec Chamberlain at Brighton and, commenting on the 6ft 5in Belgian, the Hornets boss smiled: "We've had to get a warehouse to make a shirt to make it big enough, both for the size of the guy and also his name. It comes down to his arm I think somewhere.
"He's come in, he was on the bench Saturday and we're going to be looking at next year on the players and it gives us a good opportunity to have a look at a goalkeeper that we've had a look at and been impressed with in reserve team fixtures. It bodes well for this season and the next."
Turning to the future, Boothroyd explained: "I'm thinking about all kinds of things. What division we're going to be in, who we're going to play in pre-season and the players that I need to strengthen to add to what we've got here so that we can maintain the culture and the momentum the staff and the players have managed to get going.
"It might sound like a contradiction and a paradox when I'm thinking about the next game, I'm also thinking about the future. I just don't tell the players that."
