Newly-promoted Newcastle United are hoping to sign Watford’s Player of the Year Tom Cleverley on a season-long loan.
Cleverley was an instant hit with the Hornets fans and his 11 goals this season attracted many admirers.
Newcastle United sent scouts to watch Cleverley on a number of occasions and boss Chris Hughton was spotted at Doncaster Rovers in January looking at the midfielder.
The 20-year-old was hoping to be involved with the Manchester United first team next season but manager Sir Alex Ferguson may decide Cleverley will benefit more from regular football at Newcastle United.
