Hornets reportedly table three offers for Walsall striker

Watford are refusing to comment on reports that three bids for Walsall striker Troy Deeney have been turned down.

Last week we reported our understanding that the Hornets “are still considering an approach” for the Saddlers’ Player of the Year, but the club will not comment on suggestions the three rejected offers have been made in the last three weeks.

However, Walsall boss Chris Hutchings has stated the bids, believed to from Watford, have been refused.

He told the Express & Star: “We’ve turned down three bids over the last three weeks for Troy. I’m under no pressure to sell him but everyone has a price.

“That’s where we are. He knows the exact situation and I’m keeping him informed of everything that’s happening.”

Watford are keen to bolster their attacking options and Hutchings has acknowledged that if they meet Walsall’s valuation of the 22-year-old, who netted 14 goals last season, the move could happen.

“We have to look at his progress as a professional and young man who wants to play at a higher level,” the Saddlers boss continued.

“If you want to sell your car for £1,000 and I offer you £500 you’ll tell me to go away. If I offer £750 you’ll say the same.

“When I get to £950 it might make you think about it, but at the moment the offers have been rejected and that’s the end of the matter.”

Does that last quote translate as 'offer me around £200k and he's yours' then?

If the car has yet to pass it's MOT then I would not be willing to meet Chris Hutchings asking price for the banger!

£400K is more than enough for an in-experienced lower league striker.
If Walsall think this is not enough, there are plenty of other Div 1 and 2 teams who would bite our hands off for that sort of money!

Interesting. Can't see us shelling out much more than £250k on this lad, who clearly has potential and would add to our squad options; but we could really do with an experienced player (eg H) alongside Graham & Buckley (unless Danny's moving on that is ... which I sincerely hope is not the case).

Will follow with interest, except for the idotic rants from the anti-brigade this site attracts....
