Watford and Middlesbrough confirm loan of Andrew Taylor

Watford have confirmed Middlesbrough left back Andrew Taylor has joined the club on loan.

Taylor has been out of favour at the Riverside under Gordon Strachan and has made just one substitute appearance this season.

The 24-year-old, who will wear number three, will reunited with former Boro team mates Josh Walker and Danny Graham.

The England Under-21 international made his professional debut days after his 19th birthday while on loan at Bradford City, where he made 26 starts.

The left back went straight into the Boro team on his return in January 2006 and was a regular while the club was in the Premier League.

Taylor, who has made 125 appearances for Middlesbrough, will be on loan at Vicarage Road until January 5.

Sounds like a decent signing and he has played in the prem. At last Doyley can move to right back. So many of our attacking moves break down because he hasn't got a left foot.

It was clear for all to see on Saturday that Hodson has a way to go before he can play consistently at this level.

Indeed, this looks to be a good signing. Hodson has been a little erratic, some good games, some very poor, so I thionk releasing Lloyd over to right back would be a good move for now.

lets hope he's a better summer signing than the rest of the guys MM has brought in..... Nothing so far of the calibre of Cleverly, Lamsbury or HH. Has MM lost his golden touch with Sir Alex....??? Sources close to the club were very confident of getting a MU player in as left back on loan.

To be fair, we may still get one more in from Man U (or similar) as the loan window opens again on Sept 8th. As to the signing of Andrew Taylor, this looks a good move to me as well. With regards to Malky's other new signings, it's far too early to pass judgement in my opinion. Josh Walker hasn't had a game yet and I see signs that Deeney could become very useful over time. I seem to remember that Lansbury took a few months to settle in. Cleverley was different class anyway. U Horns!!

No he was great at norwich, outstanding against Coventry and Hull Doley needs droping.

Exactly! harry hornett take note Hodson is o.k when the opponents do not have a dedicated and designated wide left player. When they do the concessions come from that area of the pitch-Conclusion hodson not of sufficient pace and strength to play at this level of football! Malky will protect his job before the kid becomes a visible one goal deficit!!

Hodson gets treated very harshly, he has overall done well for us since he came in, if Doyley got the same treatment people would realise he has some faults at times aswell, like sheparding in his own box, but i don't treat this as a one goal deficit or a must drop error, he sometimes does that when he shouldn't, but makes up for it with other positives.

Your so wrong Derek, Hodson is 18 and has played 40 games on merit, ive only seen him have 5 dodgy ones. Hes a boy holding his own against men. Hes not slow by any means and ive seen him out muscle people like Freedy Eastwood, Jay Simpson and john bostock to name a few, he was thrown in early because Watford had too. Most youn championship players dont make debuts untill ther 20/21 and that couple of years makes a big difference you need to look at the bigger picture.

Well doctor, i expect Malky will go for the more experienced player, Doley gets terrible stick on the Watford forum all the time, but hes 26 and a man Hodson is still a teenager, if Hodson was the same age as Doley ther would be no competition, Hodson is more composed on the ball can play off both feet and gets more assists than Doley, weve only played 4 league games and Hodson set one up already how many goal scoring crosses will Doley put in this year.

We all know that Hodson is far better going forward than Doyley. But Lloyd is a far better defender, and that is what we need! Doyley will be RB next game with the new signing Taylor at LB. Hodson will make way, as we all know he is "one for the future", as are so many of Malky's boys. I am a minor prophet you know, so mark my words very carefully!

I should think Doyley will move to right back with Hodson the one dropped (like Sordell maybe its too early to expect him to perform week in week out to a certain standard)

Nice to have a left footer in the team who can maybe keep the ball on the pitch when passing and get forward well.

harry hornett- everybody who sees Hodson as decent going forward but poor defensively have taken a ton of abuse from you- your slavish devotion to the player is fair enough but time will tell!!

Either way it is competition, Doyley will get the nod and Hudson will be given more time to develop. He is young and young players make mistakes. Unfortunately the rest of the back four / GK are as shaky too any mistake is magnified.
-
Have always said Doyley is not a footballer but a **** good athlete if he wasn’t at the Vic he would probably be running the 200 meters or throwing the javelin! He has pressure on him now if he has a run of bad games, as he often does, he will be dropped maybe that is the kick up the backside he needs.
-
When the window open would like to see a young centre half putting pressure on Martin Taylor and another forward. Sordell will not make it his touch is not good enough maybe in league one or two but not the championship, if he had anything about him he would have scored against Notts County. Could be an asset (injection of pace coming off the bench this year) but if we have to rely on him for goals we are in trouble.

Well Mr Watters, Hodson and most other young players have taken a ton of abuse from the likes of you. Having been involved in youth football for many years im sticking up for the club and its youth policy. We have a great record of producing players at this club but at 18 dont expect them to be the finished acticle, why do you think at international level the age group goes up to 21, thats the age when a player truly comes into his own, so people on this forum that make comments about sordell, jenkins and hodson never being good enough to play at this level havent a clue. I remember a certain teenager being released at 16 called Ashley Young who went on to play for his country and put a nice 9 million into Watfords bank account.

Just in case you think i am negative about the youth i rate Bryan, Mingoia,Sordell, Oshodi, Bennett and Jenkins, Gavin Massey, Adam Thompson and Sean Murray. Also was disappointed they released Brooks and Yiadom its just Hodson i feel falls short of championship quality and costs us in games!

WFC4ever says...

Have Brooks and Yiadom found clubs yet?

Heard they were on trial at Brentford in the summer..

Interesting point GT makes about Doyley...its true he has good pace to cover for any mistakes made and I do feel a lot of younger players are picked if they have speed rather than techquie which coaches hope to develop in the future as with Theo Walcott for example.

I do think some of our youngsters could do eith a spell at a lower league club but because our squad is very light they have to stay with us.

Its a shame we hardly have any Reserve games to give these guys playing time...we might have well not have one and just play pratice matches.

I think its a good move to get somebody in such as Taylor who potentially we might sign in January rather than pinning our hopes on another Cleverley because we didd rely on him last season a lot although maybe a striker from one of the Premiership clubs will come in as a short term measure.

yes thanks to chris cummins who we sacked, who from the academy have we made any money on since, and who will we sell for any profit in the near future????the released players all struggle to find lower league football.quality coaching not quantity. why did ashleys youngest brother jump ship having seen how well his brother had done here in the past.the jury is still out on harefield.

I don't agree that Hodson costs us in games, he has done well overall, had a few dodgy games, but none where you can say, in my opinion, he cost us that game completely it was entirely his fault. Graham Taylor, agree with everything you say apart from Sordell, just because he doesn't score against lower league oppo does not by any means at all mean he is not good enough, otherwise plenty of world class players even wouldn't be good enough for top clubs, Sordell i think has done very well and if he wasn't good enough he wouldn't be starting, he will be good enough i think as he is pnly 19 aswell and holding his own in the chAMPIONSHIP. coyh

Totally agree about Sordell. His raw, shows a lot of vision and has pace. Reminds me of Luther in his early years. As for young Hodson, to much expected for a boy plucked straight out of the Academy. This is an opputunity for him to learn his trade from a very good loan signing.
Highly rated at the borough as we will see when he makes his debut.
Hats off to Malky!

I like Sordell, good pace & touch, finishing will come the more he plays & grows in confidence, however another forward is desperately needed, I know its early but signs are not good from Deeney.
Why not go for someone like Alan Gow, decent forward, only 27 & ripped us apart when he played for Blackpool, available on a free now & looks like going to Motherwell - surely players like this are within our budget & would do a job for us

good signing, he should be played ahead of hodson however the young man should still be played. hodson is good on his day but is very shakey against physical attackers but if he improves could be an average team player. deeney looks good and needs more time with graham. mutch looked okay but i want to see walker as he could be better. ross jenkins needs to be dropped from the squad, all he does is lose the ball. woeful player!

Away at Cardiff last season young Hodson was at fault for all three goals! Barnet away and Leicester at home are others that come to mind. If I peruse the fixture list, I am sure I can up with many more!
The only reason he has jumped the others in the pecking order, is that he had no competition for his place until this week!!
He won't play again unless Taylor or Doyley get injured, but still a good squad member. Could possibly also be converted into a good mid-fielder where his errors are not exposed so much.

I was at all of those games, he was at fault for two at Palace and one at Leicester, the Barnett pre season he was playing left back and who cares about preseason. So if out of forty games thats the best you can come up with thats not bad, you always come up with the bad press comments forgeting the numerous brilliant comments hes had. He also made the news of the world team of the week 5 times and is a nothern island under 21, hes played 40 games on merit not because there was no one else, Ross Jenkins can play right back so can Dale Bennettt but hes the preffered choice being a year younger. Your arguments are flawed on all counts. Doyley has been at fault at Notts county for one goal and the Pen against Coventry and weve only played 4 league games, Malky will probable go with experience not because Hodsons a weak link.

You are right Harry, Malky will go with experience because the in-experience of Hodson lets us down too many times.
As for saying that Jenkins and Bennet can play at right back, that's a bit like saying that Taylor can play at centre forward when he is pushed up front late in games when we need a goal desperately!
Time will tell, but you know young Hodson will not play many more games this season (barring injuries and suspensions).
Malky is usually right, so expect your darling prospect to be on the bench against Donny.

So fairwater, Comparing Taylor to a forward is desperate, and Bennett is a highley rated defender so come back with some thing better than that please. And how does a player get experience ? buy playing and making mistakes. When you next have a week off work sit down and work out how many goals Doyley has been at fault for after 200 plus league appearances.

I agree with loaning players out, but dont tell me Bennett and Hodson have had more bad games than good games. When Demerit came back last year and Hodson was rested we lost quite a few on the spin, then he came back in and we picked up again that is a fact, and the games Bennett has played in hes looked better than Taylor.
