Watford's potential new owner has assured fans he will not move the club away from Vicarage Road if his bid is successful.

Laurence Bassini spoke exclusively to the Watford Observer yesterday about himself, his past and why he wants to takeover the Hornets.

Last week we revealed Bassini and his close friend Panos Thomas were the potential investors currently in talks with Watford's major shareholders over a potential takeover.

Bassini said he could not talk about his future plans because of the 'takeover code' but described rumours he planned to quit Vicarage Road and move the club to Elstree as “nonsense”.

“As far as I am concerned, that is complete nonsense, absolute nonsense,” Bassini said during his first ever press interview, which took place at Vicarage Road.

“If an offer was forthcoming from me, this club would never move, that is the last thing that would ever happen.

“I have heard the rumour to do with people in Elstree, it is nothing to do with us whatsoever.”

There will be more from Laurence Bassini later on today.

Bassini, who lives in Stanmore, also dismissed speculation there were six people involved in the potential deal and confirmed it was just himself and orthopaedic surgeon Panos Thomas, as reported by the Watford Observer last Friday.

“I have known Panos for four years, Panos is a very highly-respected surgeon,” Bassini said.

“Our daughters know each other and go to the same school. We are good friends, we get on and we are out together all the time.”

More to come from the Watford Observer's exclusive interview with Laurence Bassini later today.
