Laurence Bassini says it is of “paramount” importance that he discusses Cardiff City’s official approach for manager Malky Mackay with the Watford board.
“I rejected the approach – and hope our fans understand that I now need to consult with Graham Taylor and the board of directors,” the club's owner told the Hornets’ official site.
“The need to discuss this matter with members of the board is paramount.”
The Bluebirds approach for the Hornets boss had been expected after talks with former Newcastle United manager Alan Shearer broke down last night and Mackay was, once again, installed as the odds-on favourite for the vacant post. However, it was almost instantly rejected.
Bassini added: “We should remember that Malky committed his future to Watford as recently as March, when he signed a new three-year contract.”
