Dundee’s chief executive has described Watford as “excellent to deal with” over the transfer of Craig Forsyth and hit out at criticism by Crystal Palace’s Dougie Freedman.

The Hornets look set to beat a number of clubs to the signing of Dundee midfielder Forsyth and the Watford Observer understands the 22-year-old will have a medical tomorrow.

Dundee’s chief executive Harry MacLean said: "Watford have been excellent to deal with and we have accepted their transfer package for Craig.

"They have agreed terms with him and that means he will travel to Watford for a medical early this week."

It was a different story when MacLean was asked about comments made by Crystal Palace boss Freedman.

Freedman had said: “We made an offer to the club [Dundee] and to the player and left it with them. Nothing has come back from them so it looks like that one is dead in the water."

But MacLean strongly rejected any suggestion Dundee had not acted correctly with Palace.

He said: “We have been disappointed to read those comments from Dougie Freedman given that we have been entirely professional throughout our dealings with Crystal Palace.

"Those quotes attributed to him regarding Dundee are both misleading and untrue.

"We did respond to Crystal Palace's original bid, which we turned down, then after negotiations we accepted a much improved second offer in writing to Palace chief executive Phil Alexander.

"Further to that, I believe Palace were unable to agree personal terms with Craig."

Forsyth is a midfielder who can also play at left back. He made 70 outings for Dundee and scored eight goals in 35 appearances last season.

The 22-year-old is out of contract but because he is under 24, a compensation package has been agreed.
