Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Mick McCarthy has indicated that Michael Kightly’s spell at Watford will be a brief one.

Kightly has already made five appearances for Wolves this season, three of which were starts, but yesterday the midfielder joined the Hornets on a one-month loan.

With a lot of loans there is a good chance the initial month-long deal will be extended but it seems unlikely in this case, with Kightly expected to return during the next international break in November - Watford have six matches before then.

McCarthy said: “Michael is fit to play and has already started two of our Premier League games this season.

“Having spoken to him he feels he needs to play maybe five or six games on the bounce, which is something he hasn’t been able to do in the last two years.

“We had a discussion and agreed that he should try and go out on loan where there’s a better chance of playing those games and helping him get towards the levels needed for the pace of the Premier League.

‘‘I’m sure this loan spell will be good for him and Watford.’’ Kightly returned to action in April after a 16-month lay-off due to injury and hopes he can find some form at Vicarage Road before returning to Wolves.

The player said: “There’s a good vibe about the place. Hopefully, I can do well before I return to Molineux.”

There will be more from Kightly in this week’s Watford Observer.
