Watford manager Sean Dyche believes fans shouldn’t forget the role Chris Iwelumo played in Saturday’s 3-2 win despite Marvin Sordell grabbing the headlines with two goals.

Iwelumo has struggled since his arrival from Burnley in the summer but he has improved in the last couple of performances and led the line well against Peterborough United.

Dyche said: “I made it clear what Chris was brought in for and in the last three games he has been very good and today [Saturday] he was excellent.

“He is a great foil for centre forwards. It is not always about him scoring it is about the chaos he causes in and around their area.

“Marvin takes the plaudits today and rightly so because it was a fine performance. But you must not forget Big Chris is beside him.”

There were several impressive performances on Saturday and one of them was Prince Buaben, who excelled playing at the tip of the midfield diamond.

Buaben impressed in the absence of captain John Eustace but Dyche claims the Ghanaian is not guaranteed a starting place despite his best performance in a Watford shirt.

Dyche said: “There were a number of good performances today [Saturday]. Nyron [Nosworthy] came in at the last minute and gave a very good performance. Scott [Loach] has had his fair share of doubters but he made a couple of good saves today. Lee Hodson has come in, Prince has come in.

“I have suggested all along that when he is fit, Prince will play. Now that doesn't guarantee his place in the next game or the one after that but it means we have another valuable member of the squad who is ready to play, and he showed that today.”
