Watford manager Sean Dyche hopes supporters will now have more “belief” after his side secured their third home win in a row.

Sections of the Hornets’ faithful have been critical of Dyche this season and some supporters had an opportunity to question him at the club’s Fans’ Forum earlier this month.

But Watford have improved of late and Saturday’s 2-0 win against Portsmouth was the club’s third victory in four games, lifting the Hornets up to 19th in the Championship table.

“For me as a young manager we have had a really interesting couple of weeks,” Dyche said.

“Obviously we had a game [against Middlesbrough] that we felt we deserved something out of and unfortunately the officials maybe cost us that one. And in the international break we had a really nice, open Fans’ Forum which I really enjoyed and maybe dispelled a few myths or gave a few things for people to think about.

“That was good and the fans play a big part in what we do here and they get their rewards. Sometimes they are hard to come by but I think three wins at home gives them belief that I suggested was there [among the players] all along.”

Watford have struggled to score goals this season but have looked more threatening going forward in recent weeks, scoring eight times in their last five matches.

Dyche added: “I have said all along that I believe in mixed football. I believe in how many different ways you can attempt to hurt the opposition and that is definitely showing at the moment. I think the last three wins at home have shown that.

“There is belief in what we do, there is belief in the players and sometimes it takes time. Whilst not suggesting it will take forever, we are always developing and we are always learning.”
