Harry Chapman was the star at Little Hay Golf Club’s Half-Term stroke play competition as he ran out as the clear winner.

Chapman carded a net 71 to take the title, ahead of Luke Wrathall (76) and Ryan Howe (77), who finished second and third respectively.

The competition was a good advert for the club’s junior section which has been growing for the last two years due to the combined efforts of the club, the Golf Complex and a programme of coaching, competitions and matches which have been arranged for the year.

Any boys or girls interested in taking up golf or joining the club should contact the Little Hay Golf Complex or phone junior organiser John Poston on 01442 873343.

Saturday saw the men in action, competing for the Alan Irwin Trophy.

In a field of 29 entrants, Phil Chester came out on top with a commanding score of 47 points ahead of Keith Muir (38) and Nick Pinnock (36).

Little Hay’s senior men were also competing as they played the New Course at Hatfield London Country Club.

Graham Cracknell shot the best individual score with 39 points, while Derek Tarling was nearest the pin and Geoff Selley posted the longest drive.

The team prize was won by Cracknell, Roger Woods, Peter Humphrey and Jon Ridgewell.

The ladies competition was called off due to the snow but they will be welcoming new members for a talk over coffee on March 3 and 5. Those interested should contact Carol Kent on 07976 559660 for details.
