Youngsters attended Saracens’ half term rugby camp’s at their training ground at Old Albanians Rugby Club.

The Saracens Rugby Camp Programme is aimed at Under-7 to U-16 age groups and provides organised, educational, inclusive and structured activities, utilising Saracens’ experienced, qualified and award winning coaches.

The Saracens community coaches aim to instil some of the values that drive the professional players, urging young talent to play with passion and commitment, respect and discipline whilst working effectively as a team.

To help with these aims and to inspire the youngsters, they had a visit from Saracens winger James Short. He scored Saracens’ only try in the 2011 premiership final to help them to a historic premiership title.

Short said: “It is great to attend camps like these, and the kids are really responsive to everything that I and the coaches say. Grassroots rugby like this is where I and every single professional player started and it is so important for clubs like Saracens to pass on their knowledge and expertise.”

Steve Cole, a parent in attendance, said, “My son Daniel has had such a good time with Saracens. He loves rugby and it is so good for him to receive professional coaching. Daniel was smiling from ear to ear when he heard that James Short would help coach him.

“It is events like this that are the heart of English rugby and such a great experience for everyone, even us parents."
