Royal Masonic School’s Under-16 gym team have been named the British Schools Gymnastics Association National Carita Plate Champions.
After winning the Regional competition, the team of seven girls travelled to Stoke-on-Trent to face eight other sides from across the UK.
Royal Masonic’s girls competed in the floor, the vault and performed a group sequence. Their performances in those events meant the claimed returned home champions.
Team captain Jessica Middleton, who has been doing gymnastics since age five, puts their success down to how close the team are and the trust that exists amongst the side.
"We all support each other, listen to each others’ ideas when creating floor routines and I think this leads us to perform better, even though we are in different year groups at school."
The team consisted of Middleton, Charlotte Michaels, Sophia Lunt, Manaalee Trivedi, Serena Conn and Sophie Parkinson.
